Glen broke the french press. He inquired about the availability of freshly-brewed coffee, and I told him it would be more available if someone would go and clean out the press. Glen then proceeded to fail hospitably in his attempt to clean out the darn thing.
Fortunately, we have another one lying around here, even though it, too, is in need of replacement, as it sports a hairline fracture along the bottom of the carafe. Not the most elegant of coffee-brewing situations, but it's certainly serviceable, and it led to the delightful brew we're enjoying this morning, a Costa Rica Petite Bean Experiment, whose greens were obtained from Sweet Maria's. As Peter said, "This is excellent...very, very sweet." I would agree, especially as the sweetness seems to cover a broad range of flavor notes: caramel, red fruits, tea, and even a touch of nuttiness in the aroma. It's ridiculously enjoyable, and I'd gladly offer up this cup as a "gateway coffee" to someone not used to taking their coffee without additional flavorings. The one problem with that is the beans themselves seem to be fairly dynamic, thus making the predictability and repeatability curve a touch steeper. The flip-side of that? All the cups have been delicious, despite the unpredictability.
