Overview

It's become a staple in the specialty coffee industry and the go-to gadget for pros and hobbyists alike. Hario's Buono has made its mark and it won't be displaced anytime soon. In recent years the hype about this kettle reached a record high, with promises of an electric version entering the U.S. market. Regrettably, Hario was unable to obtain the required certifications to sell to stateside coffee-folk...

...until now. The electric Buono is here, shining from our shelves and ready to ship. Like its stovetop sibling, it sports a slim gooseneck spout for optimal control and slow-mo flow. Its beautiful, beehive-shaped body is crafted with stainless steel for unrivaled strength and insulation. With a cordless design, auto-off feature, and quick-heating element (boils 0.8 liters in 5-6 minutes!), the electric Buono permits an even simpler pour-over.

Features:

  • 0.8-liter capacity
  • Auto-off
  • Boil-dry protection
  • 360-degree cordless design
  • Cord storage in base
  • AC 120V / 60 Hz / 1000W

After being an unemployed hipster for several months and fawning over the Hario kettles while I lazed around in coffee shops, I finally got a job and became a yuppie so I could afford this kettle. I was REALLY excited about it, but I have to say, I'm surprised by it's low quality.

The heating element looks like it was just soldered on as an after-thought, the kettle gets wicked hot while the water is boiling, and it takes MUCH longer to heat up than my old $19.99 kettle from targét.

Otherwise, it's really cool/beautiful/elegent etc, but I'm sad to admit that it really just isn't a top-quality product for the price.

I bought the Hario Electric .8 L from Prima Coffee, mistakenly believing they had a good return policy. I should have done a little more reading before I placed the order, because (1)the reviewers stating that it has a plasticky, chemical smell even after boiling water thru it are correct; and (2)Prima-coffee.com does NOT actually have a good return policy. I ran water thru it at least 5 times, and i tried a splash of vinegar in there once too, with the water. Very chemically smell remains.
