Perfect for that special one-cupper

The Hario Coffee Grinder Mini Mill Slim was the perfect grinder for my specially purchased, locally roasted coffee beans. I was using a blade grinder and it was okay but even using the same grinding selection on the blade grinder, some of the grounds were fine and some were course. The Mini Mill grinds the beans perfect every time! A great little tool for that special weekend morning cup of coffee.

Great grinder

This little grinder is excellent. It accurately produces a uniform grind and is easy to use. I keep it in my desk drawer at my office and grind some beans when I need a cup of coffee at work. Easy to use, works well, can't complain!

The BEST!! Easier than electric....

I LOVE this little grinder! It's actually easier than the electric because there is no static electricity cling, so cleanup is negligible. 55 or so turns, less than a minute, and I have my single espresso ready to go. I look forward to using it every moring, and it will travel with me. My only complaint is that the sticker didn't come off easily and left a glue residue that didn't come off with the usual goo-gone remedies.

Great Little Grinder

Bought one of these for work and liked it so much I bought another one for home use. Burrs are easily adjustable for a perfect grind and the unit is easy to keep clean as the grounds do not stick to the plastic receptacle so a few taps over the garbage can is all that is needed. Burrs can cleaned in seconds with a few swipes of a small paintbrush.

Light-weight but feels durable. Small but not too small. Easy to use. Just right grind. A good companion to the Aeropress. Travels well, so far.

Simple, compact, gets the job done

I have used this slim mini grinder for about three weeks and it does exactly what the description says. I grind coffee beans for a single cup of coffee in the morning and don't mind the 2-3 minutes of turning the handle for the proper grind. It's size and simplicity are convenient. If you're looking for a quick grinder or grinding for multiple cups of coffee at once this is not the best option.

Awesome little grinder

This little grinder is pretty awesome. It makes consistent grounds and it feels like it will last a long time. If you're thinking of making coffee for more than two people, you'll probably want something bigger. For me, it's perfect. I hope to be using this grinder for many years to come.

Great for the price

This little hand grinder is amazing for the price. Grind size is a little inconsistent, but that can be improved by easy mods and making sure that you put the base of the grinder on a flat surface covered by a towel (or something else like that) to decrease the vibrations and jiggling of the beans in the hopper. This stabilizes the grinder, as opposed to grinding with it in the air and only being held by your hands. I was also expecting it to be harder to grind the beans by hand, but it actually takes very little effort to turn the handle! Once I turn on my kettle, I easily finish grinding before the water is ready. One of the only drawbacks would be the relatively small capacity of the container which holds the grounds. This would only present a problem if you want to make more than a couple cups - and even then, it isn't much of a hassle to empty the container and continue grinding. All in all, I would say that this grinder is great for the home brewer who doesn't want to spend $100+ for an electric burr grinder.

Everything excellent

Prima is the best! First, the website is great. Filled with info and very easy to read and negotiate. I was trying to decide between 2 grinders, so I called for more info. The guy was really helpful and friendly and made a couple of points I hadn't considered. The grinder I bought was perfect - the Hario Slim. Price was competitive, shipping rates were fair, and it was quick to arrive. I had one final question for them and I got another guy who was knowledgable, friendly, patient and funny. This is the place to buy coffee gear!

Perfect for a cup or two

I bought the Hario Mini Mill Slim and it works great especially with my aeropress. It holds just enough beans for my morning double americano. I like how easy it is to load. The fact that the handle comes off and hangs off the edge of the mill for storage is great! And it looks great on my counter. No need to put this one away in the cupboard!

Cheap but great grinder!

I really like this product. There is also hario's other hand grinder skerton, but I prefer this one because you can adjust how fine you want it to grind by simply turn the nut at the bottom of the top chamber. Also the nut makes clicking sound as you turn it, so you can remember the number of clicks to adjust it to your preference. I usually make coffee using moka pot, and I turn the nut one click from the finest grind and that makes perfect for moka pot. (I think it works for espresso machine too). I saw someone was complaining about hand grinders because it takes too much time to grind, but if you are not producing many cups of coffee in a day, and you also don't want to spend 300 bucks on electric grinder, then this is the perfect product for you. You seriously need only a minute or less to grind for one cup of coffee.

Love it - amazing smell!

I'm a middle-aged "hipster", I suppose, in that I'm fussy about my coffee. I have a grinder at home, and mill my beans before making my morning pot. But at work, I'd been bringing pre-ground. So I got this for work. It's a little noisy, and takes a little more time/effort than I had anticipated (2 to 3 minutes to grind coffee for one cup). But it's a nice design, and the grind is fantastic. Glad I got it.

Adjustable and reliable

I bought this to produce an espresso grind. Very first shot I pulled using this grinder yielded the best shot I ever got out of the Gaggia. Enough said. I like it is made of plastic, easier to transport. The mill's handle gets stuck on the unit sometimes, but if I simply pull up on the end of the handle, it frees itself, so I can remove the lid. All in all, very pleased with this purchase.

Actually performs as advertised!

This is a clean, compact, simple design that is easy to understand and to use.  If anyone is worried about the minute it takes to grind the beans, he or she probably does not like coffee enough to appreciate what this little gem does.  It takes longer to boil the water than to grind the beans, and this will easily grind enough for two very strong cups.  I like my coffee strong, clean, and clear, and that is what the hario delivers.  Kudos!  The only suggestion:  have an English speaking person edit the directions.

Beats Skerton Every Time IMO

Note: I used to work as an employee at Prima Coffee but the following opinion is my own. I had used the Hario Skerton for over a year for my coffee and appreciated its quality and use, but there were several annoyances. I recently got ahold of a mini mill and after using it for a couple of months would never go back to the Skerton! They seem like small things, but when using it often, the differences are substantial for me: A lid - oh how wonderful to not have my beans peppering my kitchen while I grind. This was my single greatest annoyance. Easy click grind setting - I love not having to take apart the handle mechanism to set the grind. The spring in the burr mechanism - there appears to be a spring of sorts to keep the burrs tight as opposed to the Skerton which would promote a more uneven grind as the burr hangs loose. The skinny design - I can actually grasp the HAND grinder with my (not terribly large) hand and crank on it, even if held on its side (with the lid preventing beans from falling out). Quieter design - this may have to do with the lid, but overall, the Mini Mill is IMO substantially quieter than the Skerton. You may not care about this until you are trying to grind coffee before work while your wife and toddler sleeps in the next room. I have a Baratza Encore, and I find myself actually using the Mini Mill quite a bit because of this. Grinding up 18g is hardly difficult while the water is boiling. I have been using the Mini Mill more than I thought for this reason. Over all, I'd say the Minimill, while not the ultimate grinder, is a fantastic little buy for the cost and I would purchase it over the Skerton for sure.

Amazing little beast!

This is an AMAZING little grinder! I got it because I travel a lot and am seriously addicted to good coffee. I wanted something to use out on the road that was also small enough to pack when hiking. This goes way beyond that and I find myself using it everyday. There are very few proper ceramic burr hand grinders. And the only one "intended" for camping use is the GSI Java Grind. It is big and heavy though and not a good choice for backpacking. This Hario Mini Slim on the other hand fits easily into my pack. Grind consistency is awesome. It is a mild workout, but is still fast and easy to use. I LOVE this grinder!

Hair Coffee Grinder

I purchased this item as a gift for my wife to encourage her to stop going to Star bucks etc. To date we have used this grinder 20 or so times, has worked great, pretty much does as the product description details. Is nice size, fits in the hand well and I like the see through catchment. I don't have any comparative basis to say if it's good/bad/indifferent to other grinders. I grinds the beans to the size needed to make a sweet cup of coffee using the Aeropress.

Good little first grinder

This is my first burr grinder. It gets the job done well at a fraction of the cost of electric grinders. I don't mind smaller batches and longer grinding times. I'm not terribly impressed with the grind consistency above 10 clicks. Large bean chunks make their way out at these settings. This makes French press difficult unless you are willing to change your brew time to accommodate a smaller grind. I prefer a setting of 8 clicks. This produces a medium-fine grind that works well in my aeropress. Settings below 8 are fairly consistent from what I can tell, making this decent for espresso as well.

Great grinder for my office press pot.

I bought this after comparison to its big brother and am very happy with it. The grinder holds just enough for the small press pot I keep in my desk at work. When I take it home, it is perfectly sized for my 3c moka pot. When I take it on the road, it is perfectly sized for my Minipresso. I have been able to get good grinds out of it suitable for each method and will be tuning it up with tape soon hoping to improve it even more.

Great for one cup beginners.

Context: I am new to pour over coffee and only make one pour over cup on my days off (3 times a week). I had done plenty of research on this product from various websites. I did not want to spend a fortune on an electric mill as I am new to pour over coffee and am the only coffee drinker in my household. Some of the complaints I had read involved the difficulty in grinding the beans. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was not that difficult at all. I can easily crank out a single serving well before my water has reached boiling. However, I haven't attempted to grind more than one cup at a time. Also, being new to the coffee world, I cannot comment on grind consistency as I have nothing else to compare. However, I would certainly recommend it to anybody new to coffee, traveling, or who only brews one cup at a time.

Quality you can feel!

When you pick it up ... you can feel the quality. One turn of the handle and you feel no resistance until you drop the freshly roasted beans inside... then you just hear and feel aromatic yumminess dropping into the clear cup below. It is small enough to travel well.. I pack it , some beans and my Keurig strainer cup into a gallon size zip lock and drop it into my suitcase . It has the quality of the $100 plus grinders but for much less. Since it's made for only two cups worth of coffee groundings at a time. The manual grinding is well worth it.

Great starting out grinder.

This is a great entry level grinder. The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars is because you have to test out what each grind setting is best for (i.e.1 click 2 clicks). Hint: if you use a low torque setting and low speed you can use an electric drill gun to make life easier with this grinder :P (use at own risk)

Great Grinder

I have been using this grinder for about a month. The variable grind settings have allowed me to experiment with different grinds and dosing to get that perfect cup. The ceramic blade works quickly and efficiently. The plastic design seems durable, although not BPA free, which is concerning, but not a deal breaker. Its "slim" design is ergonomic. If your looking for a single cup grinder, consider this one.

Works well

I've been using this for at least a month now, and overall it works really well -- I'd give it a 4 1/2 stars, but the site won't let me. I'm using it for a french press. For the price point, you won't find anything better. There are just a couple of small negative things, namely that using it for a large pot can make your wrist hurt a bit and you do get a noticeable amount of smaller grind. Both of those issues are not a dealbreaker overall and if I was that concerned with it, I would've bought something way more expensive. This is nice & quiet, it does a good job with the rough grind, the beans stay cool, and it uses no plug-in energy. If you want to change the size of the grind, it is very easy to do so. For me, the positives outnumber the negatives by a wide margin.

OK, but not great

This is a reasonably good device, but don't expect wonders from it. It doesn't grind particularly evenly, especially at the coarser settings, and it takes quite a while (2-3 minutes or more) to grind enough coffee for 1-2 cups - especially at the finest settings. Probably the most important thing for prospective buyers to know is that it takes a very firm grip to stabilize properly with the non-grinding hand. If you don't have fairly strong hands, this is probably not the grinder for you.

Inconsistent Grind at Coarser Settings

I purchased this product about 9 months ago to use in the office. I use a V60 and a Clever using about 20 grams of coffee when I brew. Overall, this product is great, well worth the money. At finer grind settings, the grind is very consistent, it's easy to use and to clean, some of the parts are very small, I had to reorder one of those parts, that was very easily accomplished directly through Hario. My only beef, and from what I've read this is a pretty common problem with many hand grinders with this design, is that at coarser grind settings the grind becomes noticeably inconsistent. I'd guess about 15-20% of the average grind contains shards of coffee chips that look like something that came out of a blade grinder. I've spooned some of those large pieces out and ran them through the grinder again, which helps, but it's a hassle. I do use this grinder daily at work sometimes twice a day. I clean it on a regular basis and take good care of it. I'm not sure if the inconsistent grind size is something that has gotten worse over time or I'm just more observant now. For the office or on the road, I would definitely recommend this grinder, with the caveat about the coarser grind settings. For the home, I would not recommend it, or comparably designed hand grinders. It's too frustrating trying to dial in a great brew if you push into coarser settings.

Would be great save one major flaw

I bought this at the end of last year and used it probably 4-5 times a week for grinding my own single serving of fresh coffee beans. Lasted round 6 months. On the plus side, it's very easy to dial in the desired grind settings and not have to change or adjust. Relatively easy to use and only takes around a minute or so to grind a full hopper of beans. It does give pretty consistent grind sizes. The one flaw that's a deal-breaker is that the top hex nut that the grind handle attaches to is of a softer metal. Over time, as some other users also have noted, it will wear and cause the handle to stick and eventually strip entirely rendering it useless. Sad that a premium brand like Hario would have a high friction piece on the grinder be so low quality of metal. I can't recommend this product unless your intended use would be limited, like as a backup or for travel. Not for daily use unless they've recently changed their design.

The only benefit that I can see is that you can set the grind after experimenting . It takes too much work to grind a small amount of coffee beans. I will save for travel use only.
