To the delight of the cold brew crowd, Hario steps in with the Mizudashi and offers a delightfully simple solution for the at-home aficionado. Enjoying chilled coffee is a cinch with this all-in-one device, which includes everything but the beans themselves. Simply load the fine mesh basket with ground coffee, add an appropriate dose of cool water, and store in the refrigerator for several hours. The filter is easily removed for cleaning and the vessel itself can be used for both storage and service. The Mizudashi was made to do what others, like the French press, were manipulated for: using cold water to brew sweet, syrupy coffee.

Features:

  • Made in Japan with Hario's famously tough glass and some plastic components
  • Available in two sizes: 600 ml and 1000 ml
  • Requires no extra parts or accessories
  • Height: 8 in (small), 11.5 in (large)
  • Recommended starting parameters for large Mizudashi: 80 g medium-ground coffee and 1000 ml cold water brewed for 18 hours in a refrigerator
  • Also suitable for preparing hot coffee or tea

Hario brew pot and grinder

Great coffee making kit for traveling! (and would be perfectly fine at home, too)

I absolutely love this thing

I bought the hario cold brew coffee pot a few weeks ago as a gift for someone else and for personal use. Upon receiving it, I had it rinsed and grounds in the pot within minutes. It is very easy to use! The directions say to put it in the fridge for 8 hours but I like a stronger brew so I leave it out at ambient temp, 74 f, for over 12 just fine. The taste is smooth, almost exotic and very flavorful. No bitterness but plenty of caffeine to wake to. Just to note, take your time filling up the carafe with water near the end. It's possible to over flow the grounds if you pour the water over the grounds like I do. I do it make sure all of the grounds get a good soaking before I let it do its magic. Also to note, it catches everything as far as grinds go. I don't have the greatest coffee grinder but sometimes spits out some finer grounds. Don't worry about it with this. The filter is amazing and also easy to wash. Best coffee related thing I've bought in a long time. Will probably buy more for family and friends. Might buy another one for myself so I can make more. Do yourself a favor and get the larger one. It's enough for almost 3 large glasses. By the way, this is coming from someone who generally hates ice coffee because of the burnt taste most ice coffee preparations have. I love my new cold brew.

Good option for bringing coffee to work

I bought this two weeks ago. I have made two batches so far and both have turned out great. I like the fact I don't have to spend much time preparing my coffee in the morning. My recipe is to use 1/2 cup of cold bre concentrate 1/4 cup of water or ice and 1/4 cup of milk. This produces a very refreshing and smooth drink that I enjoy very much. The fact that it is cold makes it great to bring to the office for an afternoon coffee.

Good cold brew

I bought the small one and it makes about 2-3 cups of coffee. It's nice and easy to clean. I use it with a dark kona coffee.

Iced coffee

I recommend grinding the coffee at a setting between Drip grind and French Press, if you can: coarser rather than fine. I fill to the top of the glass, then, adding water, stir gently to thoroughly wet the grinds. Let it sit in the refrigerator overnight. I chose a peaberry coffee. I think this method of preparation will result in a low acid cup of coffee, with any coffee you may select.

Japanese for "cold brewing"

It works perfect. It's a Great Cold Brew tool for a humble barista to use in his/her home. I have tried a few different grinds: coarse and table salt and also a combination of the two. The filter works perfect for the more coarse grinds, anythings less and sediment will find its way thru and you will end up having to pour it thru another filter when its done. I am not sure of the material that the filter is made up of, but after using it once I could not get the coffee stains off of it. I did not want to scrub too hard and end up damaging the filter. Maybe it's the glass that Hario uses, but it seems to be the coldest thing to the touch in my fridge. Going to order a few more to give as gifts!

Simple and Delicious Cold Brew

This cold brewer is great! It is very simple to use and makes a delicious batch of cold-brewed coffee. I use a Totty brewer and an "Iced Coffee" brewer as well. The Hario Mizudashi is probably the easiest to use out of all 3. The Totty is probably still may favorite as far as taste goes, but I really enjoy the taste of the Hario, and I actually enjoy the differences between all of the different brewing methods. I would definitely recommend the Hario to anyone who enjoys cold-brewed coffee!

Beautifully Simple

The Hario Mizudashi Cold Brew Coffee Pot is easy to use and aesthetically pleasing. It does exactly what it's supposed to do simply and efficiently and is easy to clean. The larger carafe IS quite tall but is worth making room for if you drink much coffee.

Slick Design, Delicious Brew

I didn't realize what all the hubbub was about until I actually tried the same coffee cold brewed vs brewed and then cooled. What a difference! Ultimately, you could do this process with cheese cloth and a jar but this slick little carafe is super cute and easy to clean.

LOVE!

This is a much cleaner and easier process than any other cold brew method I've tried before. The directions are pretty clear (I used a food scale to weigh the coffee the first time). I will definitely be using this all summer.

The best Iced Coffee Ever!

My sister bought this for me as a gift a couple years ago, and I love it! I make my coffee the night before, and it's nice and cold brewed for me in the morning. Recently, I accidentally dropped it on the floor and it broke, so I immediately got online to buy a new one. For three or four days, I was back to my old way of making coffee, and it just didn't measure up! I was so excited when my Hario Cold Brew Coffee Pot arrived!

Amazing.

I found myself buying iced coffees from local coffee shops and spending so much money. I decided to try out cold-brew coffee and found this little gem. It was very easy to use. Simply add course ground coffee to the filter cup and add water. Set it in the fridge overnight and voila! Iced coffee will be waiting for you in the morning. I ordered the big size, and I was able to have enough for 2 days. You may find yourself going through coffee beans pretty quick, but you will realize how much coffee you are making. Overall, you will be saving a ton of $$$. Invest and you won't regret!

Delicious Coffee, Simple Method.

I am so thrilled with this cold brew system. It is so simple to use and the results are smooth and rich coffee, with minimal acidity. Like most cold brew systems, it does take a while to brew, but usually we just prepare the carafe the night before and enjoy the next morning. My one negative remark is the size/shape of the carafe. We did opt for the larger version (it is very tall and slender), but it is almost too tall to fit in our fridge. Luckily, there is one specific spot that it will fit--but that is it. Just something work considering before purchase. Overall, we love this brewer!

Gotta love cold brew!

I love cold brew coffee, but I always fumbled around trying to make it. Since I'm a student and don't have a very well stocked kitchen, I wasn't sure how exactly to go about making cold brew. Then I found this! LOVE IT!

Easiest brewer to recommend

I used to make iced coffee in a Chemex using the "Japanese" method, but now I make it in a Japanese Mizudashi using the "lazy" method. Cold water, 120 g of coffee at slightly-coarser-than-Chemex grind, a stir stick (I use a chopstick), and 8-12 hours are all you need for surprisingly bright, sweet, and nuanced coffee. A++++ would buy again!

Not if you're American!

I do not read Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, or any other Asian language, so the instruction sheet is useless.

Nice gear -- But instructions are in Japanese

It's a very elegant design.  But the enclosed instructions are only in Japanese, so I can't make use of it -- How much coffee goes in?  How should it be ground?  How much water?  What temperature?  How long?  Without such guidance, could be a rather hopelessly long (and expensive) trial and error process.
