Details

Orphan Espresso's hand grinders are immensely popular for a reason: they are every bit as good as an electric home grinder, and then some. With excellent build quality, thoughtful design, and a whole lot of performance packed into a small package, the Lido E is a crowd-pleasing favorite of home espresso enthusiasts around the world. Like its predecessor, the Lido E features 48 mm steel burrs with an aggressive enough cutting pattern to make short work of a larger dose for Chemex, but the fine-toothed precision to make clean and full bodied espresso well within reach. Unlike the Lido 3, the E does not come with a carrying case or folding handle, favoring home use over travel (but that doesn't mean it's not portable!).

Its stepless grind adjustment uses dual threaded rings to select and lock in your desired grind. The fine thread of the LIDO-E is perfect for making small adjustments to dial in your shots, and the dosing funnel attachment for the grinds bin makes for clean dosing into your basket. The grinding axle is actually stabilized both at the top of the hopper and just below the burr by bronze bearings, which cuts out burr wobble almost completely. Up to 70 grams of beans can be stored in the hopper, and the anti-static grinds bin can hold about 100 grams of ground coffee. This is a true full-range grinder, capable of everything from Turkish to french press grinds, and our tests with espresso showed extremely favorable results. For the price, this hand grinder holds tremendous value, and we found it is comparable in performance to electric grinders costing twice as much or more. The trade-off is that the LIDO requires grinding by hand, but with a grind speed of about 1-3 grams per second, depending on your grinding cadence, it will still make short work of any dose you throw at it.

Please note -- The included Ball Driver is for use on the main shaft only. A 2.5mm Hex Key is required for all other screws!

Solid construction, smooth movement, and it grids really quickly.

I was really surprised at how quickly it grinds the beans (coming from a Hario). It takes more strength than the plastic/ceramic Hario, but it builds character. The grounds are very consistent, and my machine hasn't gotten clogged up like it did with my older grinder.

Solid, reliable, gratifying grind

With its fine resolution in selecting ground size, Lido 2e makes superior medium fine ground coffee for pourover. Making 40 g for two people takes hardly any effort with this hand grinder. While your water is boiling, you would have your fresh ground coffee ready.

OE Lido E

The Lido E has exceeded my expectations from its packaging, the quality construction and most importantly its ability to grind coffee. I grind more towards a finer setting for a moka pot and it easily accomplishes that task. The consistency of the grind is excellent. While there is some effort to grind the coffee, its an easy trade off to not have the noise of an electric grinder.

Fantastic grinder

Has significantly improved the quality of my coffee at home, easy to use and dial in perfect settings for pourovers and espresso. Especially starting on a hario skerton I have noticed a dramatic improvement in flavor with less frustration setting my grind as well as the fact I don't foresee myself needing to upgrade for quite a while. I only wish there was an easier way to recall settings but this is hardly an issue once you figure out your own method.

great hand grinder

I bought this purely for a camping grinder for v60/french. However i find myself using it for daily use and even experimenting with it on my profitec pro-700! I doubt it will replace my sette 270 but it is an amazing piece of coffee gear that makes a fresh cup possible 50km from the nearest road in the rocky mountians

This is SOOOOO good

I have a $500 Eureka Mignon which is great for my espresso machine needs (Rocket), but I kind of wish that I saw this first. It's so quick to grind out what you need for an espresso. I have been using it for my Chemex and French press (which it excels at too). Spend $150 or you can spend $350, $450, $550+, the end result is the same, and I'd hazard to say that the Lido will last longer. My only gripe (and its a small one) is that the thick plastic canister, lock drink and grind adjuster ring could have used a good drop or two of WD-40/graphite, they squeal like woof - easily done myself though and not close to knocking a star off.

Great Quality

The build quality of this grinder is amazing. This translates in to a precision grind from a tool that will last forever. Its also rebuildable which I really like. All this works together to produce a noticeable improvement in the consistency and quality of coffee in the cup.

Glad I decided to upgrade

I was using a smaller hand grinder that worked, but took as long as 6 - 7 minutes to grind for espresso. The Lido-E cut that down to 1.5 minutes and the grind is very uniform. I like that there are no steps in the adjustment and I can adjust the grind size as little or as much as I want. Definitely worth the extra money if you're serious about hand grinding coffee.

Mostly very excellent

Great quality hand grinder at a not-totally-unaffordable price. It's faster than most other hand grinders, beautifully built, and so-far relatively consistent. Yay for nicely made stuff!

Good Results in the Cup! For Espresso and now I am dailing in for Pourovers as well. Does not produce many fines if you are the type that discriminates against them. Good Particle Distribution! Consistent, easy to take apart and clean. Great experience.

Even better than expected

I had read a lot about this grinder before purchasing it. In a way I was almost afraid that the real thing could not live up to the hype. I am pleased to say that it is even better than expected. The Lido E produces far more consistent grounds than the previous electric burr grinder that I used. Even my wife notices the difference in the taste of our morning coffee.

LIDO-E

I could tell right away that the LIDO-E was special. This grinder was made with passion and drive. Most businesses today only care about money. Grinders like this are never created when businesses choose profit over passion and drive. Thank you orphan espresso for your vision. This grinder is simple and rugged. It will do everything you ask it to. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Prima sent it to me right away.

OE Lido-E Hand Grinder

Produces an exceptionally consistent grind. I've used it for espresso and pour over, and it works great for both. It is also very easy to grind with, grinding 24g of coffee at a drip grind takes 30-45 seconds.

Lido-E: A Great Personal Grinder

I recently became interested in espresso, and needed a high quality grinder while having a budget of 500 euros. I purchased a La Pavoni Professional from an Italian in Abruzzo for 300 euro, but still needed a coffee grinder. I saw the prices of the higher tier conical electric grinders (often above 1000 dollars) and wanted that quality but not the price. The Lido E can match those grinders fantastically, albeit at a much smaller quantity with its 42mm conical burrs. I can grind 14g of coffee beans (for a double) in 20-25s after using the Lido-E for a few weeks. The resulting grinds is just what I need for espresso-grade coffee ground size. I currently have the grind setting at 2.5 ticks from the calibrated zero, and I get fantastic espresso that is still within my original budget. It also works well with other types of coffee like moka or french press, but I need to adjust the grind setting accordingly, which can be a little bit of a hassle when constantly switching coffee types. I highly recommend this coffee grinder for those who make espresso at home and need no more than 1-4 espressos at a time. Shipping was also very speedy considering my postal address is overseas (FPO), taking less than a week to arrive after my first notification.

Lido e works good and toddler proof

Grinds quickly and uniformly. Also comes apart easily. My twin toddlers stuffed paper down it and so I had to take it apart...like a thorough cleaning. I was able to take apart/put together quickly and easily.

Orphan Lido E hand grinder

I bought an Orphan Lido E hand grinder because I was tired of being disappointed with coffee grinders. The Lido E is pricey, all right, but in this case you really do get what you pay for. The grinder is elegantly designed and sturdily built, and more to the point, it out-performs every grinder I've ever tried, hand-picked or electric. It adjusts easily from fine Turkish grind to coarse French press grind and anywhere in between. It's easy to fill and easy to clean. My wife teases me for spending so much on a hand grinder, but even she is impressed with how well it works. And I expect she'd tell you that she's happy not to hear me complaining about an inadequate coffee grinder.

Lido E, so perfect.

After much thought I upgraded my Hario slim ceramic burr hand grinder to the Lido E, steel burr hand grinder. Lately I have been using the ROK espresso, and the difference in taste is much brighter and nuanced. Prima had accidentally sent me the Prima 3, and it was nice to try the difference.

Great Grinder!

Love the Lido E-T. While it‰Ûªs expensive, it does a great job grinding everything from Turkish to French press. IT takes about 30 seconds to grind 30grams for my French press, and about 60 seconds for 30 grams when set for espresso grind. This replaces my Hario Slim - it‰Ûªs quite a bit more expensive, of course, but is worth it - much easier and faster to grind, and it seems really built to last. The folding handle on the E-T is extremely durable, and I‰Ûªm glad I go it over the regular E. However, I doubt that I will be doing much traveling with it due to its size and weight. Also, Prima Coffee‰Ûªs customer service is awesome and speedy - best company I‰Ûªve dealt with in a long time.

Excellent grinder

I upgraded from a Hario Skerton clone and mainly use it with a Hario V60 but have also used it with an Aeropress and a french press. The OE LIDO-E gives a very consistent grind at any setting I've tried (1 rotation for Aeropress and V60 and 2 rotations for french press). The consistency of the grind drastically improved the flavor of the resulting cup of coffee using any brew method I've tried. I should have upgraded much sooner. I was also surprised at the size and heft of the grinder. It is quite large and heavy. It definitely exudes quality. I'm giving the grinder a 5-star review because it does its job exceedingly well; however, be aware that cleaning the unit via disassembly is a bit more involved than a skerton or clone. I have yet to try a full disassembly.

Orphan Espresso Lido E

This thing is amazing! Such a beautiful piece of machinery, solidly crafted and very accurate. At first, the adjustment threads and locking ring were a little sticky in operation, so I dipped a pipe cleaner about a 1/4" into a tube of SuperLube and applied it to the threads. Now it turns super smoothly, and makes it easy to go from French Press grind to espresso grind. I love this thing! Jerry Hutchison

Impressive Grinder

Heirloom build quality, easy to adjust, and the grind is very consistent throughout a nearly infinite range of adjustment. Because I don't make espresso as often, before I made the purchase I wasn't sure the whether the Lido E's more gradual scope of adjustment would be too much of a hassle versus the Lido 2 or 3. I called Prima coffee and and spoke Joshua who was friendly and very helpful in answering my questions. I'm glad I went with the Lido E as I find it very simple to adjust. It takes a few times of doing it to become comfortable with it, but even going from espresso to a french press grind is pretty simple once you're familiar with the settings after a couple days. If so inclined, you can make counting and remembering your settings even easier by using different colored crayons to color and fill in the notches of each of your various desired grind/brew method settings (one for espresso, one for aeropress, one for french press, etc.) When the notch is colored in just wipe away the excess. And because it's crayon it can still be easily removed with a tooth pick if you ever want to change or erase your previous settings. Overall, I find this to be a great coffee grinder and definitely worth the extra cost when compared less expensive grinders on the market.

Great grinder.

This is a major upgrade to my porlex hand grinder. Endless adjustment opportunities. Build quality is great, all finishes were showroom quality. The reason for 4 stars over 5 is that with the limitless adjustment possibilities, it‰Ûªs a little difficult to tighten the adjustment ring and keep it in place while tightening the lock ring. Totally recommend!

Almost perfect grinder

Having used this for two bags of beans, I have to say that the grinder is almost perfect. For the positives, it is super-fast (grinding for a single shot of espresso is about 30 seconds), does not require much effort and the cone to pour the grinds is excellent. Adjusting the fineness of the grind takes a little getting used to because there are no clicks or resistance, so you have to figure out how you like to track the turns/steps away from zero. The drawback is that there is a bit of retention of grinds - so I have to use the included brush to get out a good deal of them.

Consistent coffee grind

After using the Lido-E grinder for a few weeks, I have been impressed with the results. I use it mostly for pour-over but hope to use it for espresso in the future. The grinding motion on the hand grinder is smooth and doesn't take much time. The only worry I have about the grinder is that when it is adjusted for espresso I do notice the burr rubbing against the casing a little bit. I hope this not a sign that the burr will become dull over a period of time and lose its consistency.

Just get the ET model. No hopper stop in this one

The LIDO E model does NOT come with the hopper stop like the ET, which is a big deal imo Dont get me wrong this is a great grinder and I have had the ET model for a year before I got this as my 2nd grinder. Knowing it is the same grinder as ET except for the retractable handle, I opted for this for the bundled accessories, which turned out to be pretty useless for my usage anyway. Really disappointed that it doesnt come with the stopper (and without warning) I tried the stopper from ET, which fits in the E as well as it is in the ET, so that I can feel even more baited/frustrated/dissatisfied with the purchase. Like why even bother selling this model? 1 star for this so people who read this think twice before buying. With that said I highly recommend the LIDO E-T and I rate that 5 star to be fair. Now turns out I may just have to spend additional $9.5 + shipping on OE website to get it for my new grinder. Sad

Great fast manual grinder

This grinder has been great. The instructions to use it could be better, but once you learn how to use it, it's absolutely fantastic. For great espresso, I find that 8 is the best grind setting. I gave it 5 stars, but tempted to make it 4 because of the directions, but I know how damaging 4 stars could be to a product, so I kept it at 5.
