Description
Machine longevity and tasty coffee are two byproducts of good maintenance. Cafiza from Urnex is one of the most well-known and widely-used espresso machine cleaners in the industry. It is a powdery substance, consisting of a concentrated formula that was crafted to remove residue in espresso machine group heads, valves, and lines, making this a necessary product for your daily backflushing routine.
Cafiza is also great for cleaning coffee brewers and roasting equipment. When not cleaned properly, residual oils can negatively affect both coffee flavor and the roasting process. If it experiences extended contact with coffee oils, Cafiza is your answer.
Espresso Machine Instructions
Backflushing
- Add 3g Cafiza to blind filter basket.
- Backflush for 10 seconds, 5 times.
- Rinse portafilter with water.
- Backflush with water for 10 seconds, 5 times.
- Discard first shot of espresso.
Soaking
- Soak filters and metal of portafilter for 30 minutes in 1 teaspoon of Cafiza per 32 oz (1L) of water.
- Rinse with clean hot water.
Coffee Brewer Instructions
- Remove all coffee from brewer. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of Cafiza per 64 oz (2L) of brewer capacity directly into the brew basket.
- Run a full brew cycle into each vessel and let sit for 30 minutes.
- Empty each vessel and rinse all parts with clean hot water.
You can also wet a cloth with Cafiza solution and wipe down spray heads. Be sure to wipe them clean afterwards.
Roasting Equipment Instructions
Roasted Coffee Storage Bins
- Mix hot water and Cafiza in a large sink or laundry tub (Mix ratio: 50 parts hot water to 1 part Cafiza).
- Dip storage containers for several minutes. Be sure to open and close any lids or dispense mechanisms.
- Remove from cleaning solution and dip in tub of clean water. Using running water for final rinse.
- Air-dry or wipe with a cloth.
Removable Coffee Roaster Parts
- Remove any parts from your roaster that can be cleaned by dipping or soaking.
- Mix hot water and Cafiza in a large sink or laundry tub (Mix ratio: 30 parts hot water to 1 part Cafiza). Let roaster parts sit for several minutes.
- Rinse in tub of clean water.
- Use running water for final rinse.
- Dry and inspect all parts.
Non-Removable Coffee Roaster Parts
- Mix 4 tablespoons of Cafiza to 1 quart (1L) of hot water in a spray bottle.
- Mist parts heavily with solution, and wipe clean. Some parts may require more than one application.
Bagging Equipment
- Mix 4 tablespoons of Cafiza to 1 quart (1L) of hot water in a spray bottle.
- Mist hoppers, spouts, and any other coffee contact surfaces thoroughly with solution.
- Wipe surfaces clean with sponge. Keep sponge clean by rinsing periodically with clean water.
