This is a stainless steel mesh metal filter for the Yama Siphon / Syphon vacuum brewer.

Yama has specialized in hand-blown glass brewing equipment since 1978 and they've become known for their coffee siphons and cold brew towers. The siphon brewer utilizes a heat source to boil water and push it into an upper brewing chamber, then sucks the coffee down through a cloth filter and back into the bottom chamber. Hands down, it's the most involved and captivating way of making coffee. Similar to the siphon, Yama's cold coffee dripper looks more like lab equipment than a coffee maker. It uses a slow dripping process to brew a strong concoction of coffee that's destined to be served over ice.
Stainless Yama Coffee Siphon Filter is rated 4.384615384615385 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Improvement! The drawback with the cloth filter is that they start to taint the coffee almost from day 1. The stainless filter yields a cleaner brew. I had to adjust the grind to get it to return to the pot more readily. My only gripe is that there doesn't seem to be a source for replacing the stainless screen should it get damaged. Getting dinged for a whole filter seems to be a bit of a rip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from stainless filter for Yama siphon... Couldn't have imagined really enjoying siphon coffee with cloth filters... hard to keep scrupulously clean, organic, yuck. I was thrilled with the idea of the metal strainer & this product fills the bill. -very clean cup of coffee--zero residue -simple to use (had to adjust the length a few mm) -simple to clean (unscrew & rinse) Siphon brewing-everything old is new again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from yama vac pot & sst filter I was looking for an answer to a better start to my day than I was currently getting from the nasty stale coffee produced by keurig. Boy did I find it with the Yama 5cup vac pot. Once you fine tune the grind, volume of beans and water you will quickly realize what you have been missing in coffee. Thanks to Prima for my coffeeevolution. I think I am becoming a coffee snob!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean and effective! I've used cloth filters on a ice drip coffee system, and didn't enjoy trying to figure out how to clean them. The stainless steel filter is an amazing solution. It's easy to clean, and a secure seal. The one thing to note is that sometimes the iron mesh inside will get folder and therefore unseal the coffee. Simply being mindful of the position of the mesh resolves this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works with Bodum Santos! The 3 piece design is easy to clean and fits the popular Bodum Santos pot well. It doesn't get stuck nearly as readily as the factory plastic channel filter piece of garbage that it came with, but will still get just as stuck if your grind is too fine. Minus 1 star for not including a part number for the filter screen alone, just in case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than cloth filters Very easy to take apart and clean. Had to adjust coffee grind in order to drain into pot. Wish there was replacement mesh screens. Coffee has a cleaner taste and the true taste of the coffee really comes through! Thank you so much!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the fact that it's washable, and it doesn't "hold" flavor. I purchased this as a gift to myself. Works great, only one small problem. The top has a smooth ball to hold on too. It's difficult to twist apart, it should be shaped like a wing nut. Also, are replacement screens available?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful product I am so glad I ordered your stainless steel filter. It works really great. My coffee gets brewed just as I expected. Thanks again for your wonderful product. P.S. Do you sell the filter by itself? Please reply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better then those cloth filters I feel like more of the coffee flavor comes through with this type of filter. I'm glad I found one made for the Yama. I bought a different brand of filter and the coffee would not drain back into the bottom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Alternative to the Cloth After contemplating the absurd inconvenience of the cloth filter, I bought this with my Yama 5 cup stove top Siphon pot. It works great! You can even use a paper filter with it if you want.

Two things: 1. Can you take it apart to clean it? 2. Is it the right size for a tiamo 3 cup siphon? Thanks

Asked by: Lordie
1) Yes, it unscrews into three pieces for easy (and gentle) cleaning. I would recommend Puro-Cafe or, if you're of the home beer brewing bent, some Star San every once in a while to get it factory-new clean. 2) I have no idea! It is a very good filter, though, so it may be worth the gamble. Heck, the thing only costs what a couple of beers on a night out do, and if it doesn't do what you need it to, you can always frame it and use it as wall art or something. Hope this helps!

Will this fit a hario 5 cup siphon? I want to switch over to paper filters but I can't find a hario filter assembly anywhere.

Asked by: Teddydob
This filter assembly would be compatible with a Hario unit, but it is not compatible with paper filters. Currently, they aren't a product we offer.

How do I clean and store it?

Asked by: Bean
We recommend cleaning the filter in boiling water. Every couple weeks or so you may also want to use a Coffee Detergent, like Full Circle, to deep clean the fabric of its built of coffee oils. For storage, we recommend keeping the filter submersed in a container of water inside your refrigerator. This will prevent bacterial growth or mold.
