Overview

We are very excited to introduce the Bonavita Automatic Coffee Brewer with glass server! The Bonavita brewer is one of only a handful of home brewers to be certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), and at a very accessible price. The Bonavita features a shower head "trickle" design for a more even coffee bed saturation, leaving no dry, under-extracted spots in the bed. Also, the Bonavita is a reliable water delivery system, maintaining optimal and consistent water temperature during the entirety of the brewing process. The problem with nearly all automatic home brewers is that they do not reach a hot enough temperature to brew coffee, most not getting higher than 175-190 degrees. Our tests revealed a consistent 200-203 degree bed temperature and constant 205 degree water temperature at the brew head. The Bonavita brewer is ideal to serve as a replacement for inconsistent and inferior quality automatic home brewers, for coffee geeks at home wanting a quality option for brewing coffee for guests, and for offices looking for a better option than the "K-cup" machine in the break room. The glass server is an elegant compliment to the brewer, and this model includes a warmer at the base, although we recommend removing it from the heating element immediately after the brew for best results. For the Bonavita Brewer with a thermal carafe, see our Bonavita Automatic Coffee Brewer with Thermal Carafe listing.

Brand

Bonavita is a newcomer to the specialty coffee scene in the U.S., but their products will by no means let them go unnoticed for long. Bonavita's first product offerings fill a much needed gap in affordable specialty coffee brewing gear for the home. It is because of both the quality and affordability of Bonavita's products that we are bringing in two completely new products for our coffee loving customers. The first of these is Prima Coffee Equipment's first ever offered automatic home coffee brewing machine. While there are a couple of brewers on the market that could stand up to our quality standards for a home brewer, they were too expensive. Bonavita's automated coffee brewers offer the same quality of the more expensive brewers at a fraction of the cost. The second unprecedented product offering from Bonavita is their electric pour over brewing kettle. With the indefinite delay of the electric Hario Buono Kettle, the Bonavita Electric Gooseneck Stainless Kettle is the first of its kind. Like the automated coffee brewer, this pour-over kettle is cheaper than other pour-over or electric hot water kettles. We're extremely excited about these new products and look forward to more from Bonavita.

I bought this coffee maker when it first came out. I was looking for a coffee maker with a glass carafe, since my Capresso Coffee Tec, although still going strong, has a steel carafe that is impossible to strip of a stale coffee flavor.
Buying this machine was a total waste of money for me. I tried to return it immediately, but Prima "doesn't accept the Bonavita" for returns. That should have been noted on the website. Not all of the nozzle holes emit water during brewing. The grounds saturation would be better if it did so.
There is a large enough gap between the brew head and basket that all of the coffee is exposed to air before it reaches the carafe. I wonder if this is part of the reason why, no matter how fresh, good of a brand of beans, or type of grind I use, the coffee is always bitter.
I use this machine once every 2-3 weeks. It has seen less than 30 days of use, and already some water is not released from the brew head at the time of brewing, as if it is getting clogged.
Also, you have to wait for the water to go through the brew basket and brew the coffee after the water is finished heating, much like with a Chemex, which makes a far better brew.
I don't think the coffee is that hot either. I always add milk to my coffee, and I can't drink very hot beverages. But I can start sipping this brewer's drink right away.

This reviewer was misinformed about our return policy. Upon seeing his review we contacted him in hopes of resolving any problems with his machine. Prima gladly accepts returns for any used, defective units. Our full return policy is available online.

We regularly use this machine in our office and are extremely impressed with its performance. According to our experience, grounds are evenly saturated by an efficient spray head, water is consistently heated to approximately ~200 degrees Fahrenheit, and coffee is always delivered hot.

Please contact us if your experience differs. We want you to enjoy their coffee and we believe that our fine equipment will help you do so!
