Bonavita’s recent innovations in home-brewing equipment have earned the young company plenty of respect in the specialty coffee world. When the Japanese electric pouring kettle from Hario was unable to make it stateside, Bonavita stepped in and offered its own take on the electric pouring kettle. Boasting a flow rate comparable to that of the renowned Buono, Bonavita’s stove-top kettle surprised and delighted shoppers with an affordable price. Now our friends at Bonavita are back with another revolutionary product that makes precise pour-over brewing all the more convenient: the variable temperature kettle.

A digital control panel on the base allows the user to select the desired water temperature for brewing. After heating, this temperature is maintained within 1-2 degrees for up to one hour. Like Bonavita’s other kettles, this cordless electric model sports a gooseneck spout for maximum pouring control and ensures maneuverability by separating from the heating pad. With temperature presets, a 1-liter water capacity, and a built-in timer, the variable temperature kettle simplifies the routine of either the home barista or the coffee professional.

Bonavita is a newcomer to the specialty coffee scene in the U.S., but their products will by no means let them go unnoticed for long. Bonavita's first product offerings fill a much needed gap in affordable specialty coffee brewing gear for the home. It is because of both the quality and affordability of Bonavita's products that we are bringing in two completely new products for our coffee loving customers. The first of these is Prima Coffee Equipment's first ever offered automatic home coffee brewing machine. While there are a couple of brewers on the market that could stand up to our quality standards for a home brewer, they were too expensive. Bonavita's automated coffee brewers offer the same quality of the more expensive brewers at a fraction of the cost. The second unprecedented product offering from Bonavita is their electric pour over brewing kettle. With the indefinite delay of the electric Hario Buono Kettle, the Bonavita Electric Gooseneck Stainless Kettle is the first of its kind. Like the automated coffee brewer, this pour-over kettle is cheaper than other pour-over or electric hot water kettles. We're extremely excited about these new products and look forward to more from Bonavita.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the price Bonavita's new programmable kettle is a boon to coffee/tea lovers everywhere. Fill it up with water, set the temperature gauge to your desired setting and wait a few minutes for your heated h20. Once heated, the kettle can hold the temperature until make it over. Once you take the kettle off the base and put it back on, you can even have it hold the same temperature. The gooseneck is still there for precise pouring and the shape is still appealing to the eye. Build quality is very sturdy, too. The heating takes a little longer than desired, and I'd love to see a scale built in for good measure, but this is still a great leap for what was already a great kettle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional, good quality, at affordable price This is a great electric kettle. My favorite feature is the ability to hold the water at a specific temperature. It's very helpful in the mornings to put the water on and be able to walk away. I prefer to set a temperature, rather than boil water and have to wait for it to cool back down, much more convenient for my lifestyle. I definitely have to get used to how quickly the water pours out, it only takes a slight tilt of the kettle for water to start pouring. My first few times I used it I did pour too fast into the Chemex (not ideal), but I'm getting the hang of it and getting a more stable and steady pour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and great looking kettle I've had this kettle since Christmas and use it daily. It's great for anything thanks to the variable temp settings. I brew coffee a few different ways at home (French, Aeropress, Clever) and it's really nice to be able to try various temperatures and see how the properties change. It heats up quickly and consistently and is my go-to way of heating up water now replacing the microwave and stove top. The pouring action is great and the kettle is well balanced and ergonomic. I also love the built-in timer which is a great convenience. My only complaint would be that the timer stops when placing the kettle on the base, so you have to leave it on the counter until your coffee is done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great kettle, poor base I had several friends who have the basic model, with no automatic temperature control, and they all loved it. I bought this one, because of the ease of getting the right temp without babysitting the kettle. I works as advertised. My only complaint is about the base. It is very light and doesn't grip my granite counter-top at all. Sometimes, two hands are needed to remove the kettle from the base. Heats fast, and I really love the timer function for timing my pours. It meanse I can do away with using my phone or other timer to get the right pour time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful styling I saw one of these at my son and DIL's house. So far it works great, however I find the instruction book could use some tweaking. I'm still not sure how to increase and decrease a set temp from the last time I use it& Before you get all duh on me, yes, I know "+ and -" buttons, but the instructions aren't clear on which buttons flash, and just when to push the 'hold' button. I like the hold button b/c some of the teas I use require 10 minutes& by then the original water is cooling, but with the hold feature, I can splash a little more to top off the cup. Apparently I have also been brewing coffee at too cool of a temp and now will crank it up for better tasting coffee. I love the goose neck styling for pouring. No spills, and I can pour s l o o o w l y to help with the brew time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Happy I am pleased with my purchase of the Bonavita Variable Electric Kettle. It is easy to use. It has great features. I like the ability to set a particular temperature, to hold a particular temp for an hour, and as a bonus to be a timer for my pour over brew. It is well designed, easy to use, pours in a steady stream at low rates and looks good on the counter. My only issue is slight; it is slower than my stovetop kettle in heating up. Nevertheless I choose it everyday over that stovetop kettle. Overall I am very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Perfect" I ordered this for my daughter to fulfill her Christmas wish. She had asked for a similar product from our local specialty tea store. When I went to purchase it ( a large industrial size unit like they use in the shop), they had sold out! And they only carried one. So, while on the hunt for a similar product and running out of luck locally, I chanced on your website. The kettle is perfect...for any tea enthusiast who wants exact temperature settings to brew different teas perfectly, this is it. She loves it! The design is the icing on the cake... It's adorable! Plus, the cord is hidden under the kettle, for you to adjust as needed. And the kettle won't heat up without water in added safety feature my daughter learned ;) I stopped by the tea shop to show them the kettle...hopefully it will be a product they decide to carry! Thanks for exceeding expectations! Rebecca Oxford

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Kettle This is a great product. It warms water to the selected temperature while I'm grinding my beans. The spout is designed for the perfect pour / aim over the grounds in my Chemex coffee maker for the absolutely perfect cup of coffee. I'm very happy with it and I just set it on the back of my stove on an unused burner so it's out of the way and doesn't take up counter space.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth the heavy price tag Pros: Great design for pour-overs, really enjoy the shape and flow of the spout. Cons: Kind of slow to reach optimal brewing temp. and lots of clicking noises once you get there, especially as it holds the temp for you. The handle is awkward and the quality of this kettle could be greatly improved. Mine started leaking after 2 months. It only makes 2 (12oz) cups at a time, then you have to re-fill it again and click. click. Save your $85-$90, still can't believe it costs that much for what it has to offer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inferior pour, but otherwise perfect First, let me say I love my Bonavita variable temp kettle. The simplicity of turning the unit on, then hitting hold (to hold the set temp for 1hr) has changed my manually brewing process significantly. Prior to owning the kettle, I would have to patiently wait in front of the stove for my water to boil, then wait at least one minute for the water to cool down. Now I can set to hold the temp, measure out my coffee and go back to bed. Or get in the shower, or whatever. The water will be at the perfect temperature, or within one degree of, whenever I am ready to brew coffee. The only downside is, after pouring with the Hario kettle (which I also own), the Bonavita is just inferior in every way re: pouring. The bottom is heavily weighted, off-setting the center of gravity. The spout either pours to much or too little, often agitating the grounds. This might seem like a minor annoyance to some, but I honestly believe it results in an inferior brew. My advice? If you already have a pouring kettle but want the functionality of the PID, get the 1.7L variable temp kettle without the spout. Just decant into your favorite pouring kettle and you are ready to brew. Eventually I am going to sell my kettle and buy the 1.7L. Until then, I am pretty content with the Bonavita Variable Temp Pouring Kettle.

What is the voltage (110 or 220) ?

Asked by: Ahmed
110v. We're unfortunately unable to source 220v machines for international customers.

I don't want to have a gas stove in my shop. Could this machine be used for a vacuum coffee maker? like the Yama coffee maker on your site?

Asked by: Alde
Hi, Alde. Unfortunately that would not be possible. The siphon requires a constant heat source to maintain pressure in the lower chamber, and hold the water in the top chamber. Have you looked at the Yama BN-1 portable Butane Burner for the table top siphons? I think that would be your best bet.

Bonavita is manufactured in China.

Is there any plastic on the inside of this kettle [i.e., plastic that the hot water would come into contact with]?? Same question for the larger [1.7L] Bonavita kettle? Your video says that there is "some plastic" just curious if it was on the inside?

What are the dimensions of the base of the Bonavita 1 liter?
