Orphan Espresso's hand grinders are immensely popular for a reason: they are every bit as good as an electric home grinder, and then some. With excellent build quality, thoughtful design, and a whole lot of performance packed into a small package, the Lido E is a crowd-pleasing favorite of home espresso enthusiasts around the world. Like its predecessor, the Lido E features 48 mm steel burrs with an aggressive enough cutting pattern to make short work of a larger dose for Chemex, but the fine-toothed precision to make clean and full bodied espresso well within reach. Unlike the Lido 3, the E does not come with a carrying case or folding handle, favoring home use over travel (but that doesn't mean it's not portable!).

Its stepless grind adjustment uses dual threaded rings to select and lock in your desired grind. The fine thread of the LIDO-E is perfect for making small adjustments to dial in your shots, and the dosing funnel attachment for the grinds bin makes for clean dosing into your basket. The grinding axle is actually stabilized both at the top of the hopper and just below the burr by bronze bearings, which cuts out burr wobble almost completely. Up to 70 grams of beans can be stored in the hopper, and the anti-static grinds bin can hold about 100 grams of ground coffee. This is a true full-range grinder, capable of everything from Turkish to french press grinds, and our tests with espresso showed extremely favorable results. For the price, this hand grinder holds tremendous value, and we found it is comparable in performance to electric grinders costing twice as much or more. The trade-off is that the LIDO requires grinding by hand, but with a grind speed of about 1-3 grams per second, depending on your grinding cadence, it will still make short work of any dose you throw at it.

Lido e works good and toddler proof

Grinds quickly and uniformly. Also comes apart easily. My twin toddlers stuffed paper down it and so I had to take it apart...like a thorough cleaning. I was able to take apart/put together quickly and easily.

Orphan Lido E hand grinder

I bought an Orphan Lido E hand grinder because I was tired of being disappointed with coffee grinders. The Lido E is pricey, all right, but in this case you really do get what you pay for. The grinder is elegantly designed and sturdily built, and more to the point, it out-performs every grinder I've ever tried, hand-picked or electric. It adjusts easily from fine Turkish grind to coarse French press grind and anywhere in between. It's easy to fill and easy to clean. My wife teases me for spending so much on a hand grinder, but even she is impressed with how well it works. And I expect she'd tell you that she's happy not to hear me complaining about an inadequate coffee grinder.

Lido E Grinder

After asking two stupid questions and getting prompt courteous answers to both, I placed my order on a Monday morning and on Wednesday the mailman brought my grinder. Great price on a great grinder and great customer service.

Lido E, so perfect.

After much thought I upgraded my Hario slim ceramic burr hand grinder to the Lido E, steel burr hand grinder. Lately I have been using the ROK espresso, and the difference in taste is much brighter and nuanced. Prima had accidentally sent me the Prima 3, and it was nice to try the difference.

Great Grinder!

Love the Lido E-T. While it’s expensive, it does a great job grinding everything from Turkish to French press. IT takes about 30 seconds to grind 30grams for my French press, and about 60 seconds for 30 grams when set for espresso grind. This replaces my Hario Slim - it’s quite a bit more expensive, of course, but is worth it - much easier and faster to grind, and it seems really built to last. The folding handle on the E-T is extremely durable, and I’m glad I go it over the regular E. However, I doubt that I will be doing much traveling with it due to its size and weight. Also, Prima Coffee’s customer service is awesome and speedy - best company I’ve dealt with in a long time.

OE Lido E grinder

Great grinder. Able to grind much finer than my Rancilio Rocky, the reason I purchased it. Quick too

Excellent grinder

I upgraded from a Hario Skerton clone and mainly use it with a Hario V60 but have also used it with an Aeropress and a french press. The OE LIDO-E gives a very consistent grind at any setting I've tried (1 rotation for Aeropress and V60 and 2 rotations for french press). The consistency of the grind drastically improved the flavor of the resulting cup of coffee using any brew method I've tried. I should have upgraded much sooner. I was also surprised at the size and heft of the grinder. It is quite large and heavy. It definitely exudes quality. I'm giving the grinder a 5-star review because it does its job exceedingly well; however, be aware that cleaning the unit via disassembly is a bit more involved than a skerton or clone. I have yet to try a full disassembly.

Orphan Espresso Lido E

This thing is amazing! Such a beautiful piece of machinery, solidly crafted and very accurate. At first, the adjustment threads and locking ring were a little sticky in operation, so I dipped a pipe cleaner about a 1/4" into a tube of SuperLube and applied it to the threads. Now it turns super smoothly, and makes it easy to go from French Press grind to espresso grind. I love this thing! Jerry Hutchison

Impressive Grinder

Heirloom build quality, easy to adjust, and the grind is very consistent throughout a nearly infinite range of adjustment. Because I don't make espresso as often, before I made the purchase I wasn't sure the whether the Lido E's more gradual scope of adjustment would be too much of a hassle versus the Lido 2 or 3. I called Prima coffee and and spoke Joshua who was friendly and very helpful in answering my questions. I'm glad I went with the Lido E as I find it very simple to adjust. It takes a few times of doing it to become comfortable with it, but even going from espresso to a french press grind is pretty simple once you're familiar with the settings after a couple days. If so inclined, you can make counting and remembering your settings even easier by using different colored crayons to color and fill in the notches of each of your various desired grind/brew method settings (one for espresso, one for aeropress, one for french press, etc.) When the notch is colored in just wipe away the excess. And because it's crayon it can still be easily removed with a tooth pick if you ever want to change or erase your previous settings. Overall, I find this to be a great coffee grinder and definitely worth the extra cost when compared less expensive grinders on the market.

Lido E

Perfect grinder for espresso. Would be better if the middle ring was not marked. And if the instructions had pictures for settings and cleanings

Lido-E: A Great Personal Grinder

I recently became interested in espresso, and needed a high quality grinder while having a budget of 500 euros. I purchased a La Pavoni Professional from an Italian in Abruzzo for 300 euro, but still needed a coffee grinder. I saw the prices of the higher tier conical electric grinders (often above 1000 dollars) and wanted that quality but not the price. The Lido E can match those grinders fantastically, albeit at a much smaller quantity with its 42mm conical burrs. I can grind 14g of coffee beans (for a double) in 20-25s after using the Lido-E for a few weeks. The resulting grinds is just what I need for espresso-grade coffee ground size. I currently have the grind setting at 2.5 ticks from the calibrated zero, and I get fantastic espresso that is still within my original budget. It also works well with other types of coffee like moka or french press, but I need to adjust the grind setting accordingly, which can be a little bit of a hassle when constantly switching coffee types. I highly recommend this coffee grinder for those who make espresso at home and need no more than 1-4 espressos at a time. Shipping was also very speedy considering my postal address is overseas (FPO), taking less than a week to arrive after my first notification.
