Hand Grinder Grind Size Guide

Welcome to the world of hand grinders! Grinding your own coffee at home is a highly rewarding experience, but as with any new gadget, there’s a learning curve that must be mastered. Moreover, choosing the right grind size for every coffee and dose requires development of a certain intuition – How much water am I brewing with? How quickly does my filter and brewer promote flow? How developed is the roast? How old is the coffee? With so many factors at play, it can be overwhelming to start from scratch. That’s why we’ve created this comprehensive grind guide to keep you on your feet!

Unless otherwise noted, each grind setting is optimized for 20 grams of coffee. If your dose increases for pour over methods, your grind size will need to be adjusted coarser. If your dose decreases for pour over methods, your grind size will need to be adjusted finer. Immersion methods, like french press and cold brew, can maintain the same grind size regardless of the dose amount. Keep in mind this is just a starting point and you may need to further adjust a few steps (or more) to fully optimize your brew.
