Utilizing a real-time flow-control indicator, your scale gives you a visual representation of how quickly you are pouring water into the coffee bed and allows you to recognize how turbulence and agitation is affecting your final result. By having this information directly at your fingertips, you can easily make adjustments and improve your overall brewing ability and achieve desired extraction ratios without any of the guesswork. Among its many upgrades, the 2021 Pearl showcases a variety of new modes to further simplify your workflow whether you're brewing a pour-over or simply weighing out a coffee dose. A dual display mode, not found on the previous Pearl model, shows the weight being applied to the scale and a timer, making it perfect for brewing. Another beneficial mode for brewing is the auto-start mode, which enables the scale to recognize when water has started pouring and activates the timer automatically. A dosing, or portafilter mode, simplifies the repetitive weighing of coffee. While in this mode, the Pearl automatically detects your vessel, be it portafilter or dosing cup, then automatically tares the scale back to zero. This feature is especially useful when weighing back-to-back doses.
