Mahlkonig Maintenance | E65s & E80s Burr Calibration
Transcript
Hi, I'm John with Prima Coffee Equipment. In this video, we're going to discuss how to set the grind calibration for the Mahlkonig espresso grinder line.
Okay, so in a previous video, we showed you how to take the lid off. So the lid is already off. Okay, So once we get the lid off, we're going to take the grind adjustment ring off. So I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to put this on the finest setting. And there's a little lever release lever here. Spring loaded. I'm going to press that back and it's going to simply lifted off. Once we've done that, that will give us access to this gear right here. This allows you to make some small adjustments to where the grind ring sits. You can see that I have some indicators here, bigger circles going to smaller circles that, of course, is finer, going to more course. You can see I can turn this wheel fairly easily with my hand. In certain cases, if the grinder goes really coarse, this can get stuck. I'll feel like it doesn't move if you're having trouble with that. Usually what I'll do is I'll just take a flathead screwdriver and I'll push it to the fine setting, you know, carefully until the wheel starts moving. In order to calibrate the grinder, we want to get to the zero point. The zero point is where the burrs are touching and backed off slightly. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to turn the rotational carrier from the center, screw with the screwdriver, and at the same time I'm going to move this adjustment finer if your burrs are already touching for some reason when you had this at the finish setting, then you want to go coarser so that they're not touching when the grinder is on any usable setting. So go ahead. And in this case we're not touching. And so I'm going to move this finer.
Okay. So now I'm going a point where I can hear the burrs touching and I'm going to back off just slightly until they don't touch any longer. Okay. I’m at that point. All right, so now we've set it so that the finest setting on here will be a point. Just before the burrs are touching. And that's the finest we can get on this grinder. When I have that set, I'm going to go ahead and put the adjustment ring back on. But I have to remember that I want to make sure that this is set so it's on the finest setting. And again, there's this spring loaded lever there. It's going to just pop back into place. If I want to double check to make sure nothing got off, then I can keep this on the finest setting and I can turn the rotation burr and I'm not touching, so I'm good to go and then I can go ahead and reassemble the grinder and get it back into operation.
All right. I'm John with Prima Coffee, and thanks for watching our video on how to calibrate the grinder setting on the Mahlkonig Espresso Grinder Line. Okay. And we'll see you in the next video.
