Continuing their trend of hitting all the right notes for home grinder excellence, Baratza's new Sette brings further innovation to the market and even more usability to your home. Like the Vario-W and Forte, the Sette 270W uses weight-based dosing and three programmable presets up to 99.9 g, so you can create and store doses for your espresso and drip brews with ease. With 30 macro grind settings, and a stepless micro grind range, the Sette is poised to meet a range of coffee brewing needs, and especially espresso. What's more, the unique pass-through grinding mechanism is superbly efficient, leaving almost no ground coffee behind even at fine espresso settings. All in all, the Sette is poised to become the new star of Baratza's grinder lineup.

Grinding innovation:

The Sette's unique approach to grinding is more than a novel technique; it's designed to grind faster, grind better, and save you coffee. Unlike most grinders, the center cone burr stays fixed in place, and the outer ring burr spins around it. This new grinding mechanism allows coffee beans to feed directly into the burrs, and for grounds to fall directly into your bin or portafilter - there's almost no place for retained grounds to stay behind.

Acaia inside:

The Sette 270W's grind-by-weight feature comes thanks to Acaia scale technology. Three programmable dosing preset allow you to grind just the right amount, down to the tenth of a gram, and the processor inside anticipates exactly when to stop grinding to prevent overshoot. A specially designed load cell allows you to grind hands-free directly into your portafilter with impressive accuracy, and Bluetooth connectivity opens new doors for a connected grinder to act as a cornerstone of better brewing.

New burrs:

The brand new Etzinger burr set is crafted for fast grinding and better uniformity. Grind up to 4 grams/sec at espresso settings, and up to 6 grams/sec at drip settings. What's more, your coffee's flavor clarity will be superb, with fewer fines and more even extractions.

Transforming forks:

Whether you grind for espresso or press pot, the new forks are designed to sit where you need them. Simply push in on the right fork and rotate in or out to set them in the portafilter position or the open position. With the center fork in place, you can even grind hands-free. Note: While still in the works, Baratza have recently announced a brand new fork design to better accommodate portafilters of more sizes and hold them more securely for hands-free grinding.

Stepless adjustment:

At long last, Baratza have created a grinder with fully stepless adjustment, using the micro scale of the Sette's range. While the macro adjustment is stepped, the micro adjustment allows for infinitely precise tweaking of grind settings, perfect for dialing in your espresso.

Baratza is the company at the forefront of home coffee grinding innovation. Before Baratza entered the coffee manufacturing scene, one was hard pressed to find an affordable burr coffee grinder. Now, home baristas and cafes alike have multiple affordable burr grinders to choose from courtesy of the U.S. based company. Baratza currently offers five different burr grinders: Baratza Maestro Plus, Baratza Virtuoso, Baratza Virtuoso Preciso, Baratza Vario, and the weight based grinding Baratza Vario-W. In addition to this lineup, Baratza has also released a weight based grinding attachment for their grinders, the Baratza Esatto. One popular mantra from the coffee world is: the biggest investment a coffee fan can make is in a high quality grinder. Baratza has made the "investment" part of that coffee truism a lot more attainable.

Worth it...

I am loving my Sette 270w. Grind consistency is amazing and the grind speed is impressive. Also, as menial as it sounds, the anti static grounds bin is amazing. Not having to sweep up a pile chaff in the morning is a glorious thing! While I'm unwilling to lower the rating, there are a few things that I feel should be mentioned. Specs say that it weighs with a 0.1 gram variance, but I've had a little different experience. I've been dosing 30-40g and it is consistently about .8g over. At the end of the day, the built in scale is a huge bonus and that small of a variance isn't slowing me down enough to be concerned. The only other complaint is that I wish you could calibrate the burr set to run more coarse. My grind for home brewing ranges from aeropress to Bona Vita coffee brewer. When I use my Bona Vita, I have to take it all the way coarse, and I feel like that is right on the cusp of still being too fine. As somebody who doesn't have an espresso set up, I wish I could calibrate to cater better to how I brew at home. The stepless adjustment is amazing and I feel like it is super responsive, though! I definitely recommend this grinder... but I feel like you have to be pretty intentional about what brew methods you are using it for, which isn't a bad thing at all!

Baratza Sette 270w

Doesn't seem worth the extra money for the scale built in. I commonly receive an E03 error, which I assume has to do with the tare. Therefore I'm still using a separate scale for accurate grind dosing. Everything else is fantastic! Love the speed, don't mind the extra noise.

Good Try

Doesn't grind fine enough for espresso. Love the speed and the weight based dosing. Weight based doesn't work about 20 percent of the time. Nice fluffy consistent grind. Needs improvement but I can see this grinder being both a decaf espresso grinder and a pour over grinder in the future.

It was fine for a few weeks...

But now the scale is usually off by about 6 grams. E.g. we set it for 18, and it will give us 12. Sometimes even more so. We’ve contacted Sette customer support and they’ve been surprisingly very communicative, but as of yet, still no solution. We initially suspected that maybe the grinder was vibrating itself into inaccuracy, but after installing new feet (as well as physically stabilizing the grinder chassis with our hands), there has been no improvement.

Baratza Sette 270W Disappointing

I got it the first week, I was super excited to try it out. I tried it for one week, it was working perfectly fine, I fell in love with it. Next week, I tried using it it again, it completely stopped working. I was planning on going to a fundraising event and serving some coffee, however, the plans changed after I realized on the day of, that the grinder just stopped working for some odd reason. I called in the day of, talked to a representative, the only thing I was offered was a brand new Baratza Sette 270W in return. So, I rescheduled the fundraising event for the following week, I was told the Baratza would come in by Friday, however, I received nothing. Quite disappointing, still waiting on the Baratza hopefully it comes in by Saturday, 12/24/2016.

Deceptive claims, super unhappy

I was incredibly excited to get this grinder, but that quickly turned to frustration as I used it for the first month. Baratza claims this grinds great for drip to espresso, and in their manual they have grind settings for Chemex, V-60, etc. Beware, this is an outright lie. Even at the absolute coarsest setting, I was unable to grind coarse enough for a V-60. Also, though great at espresso sizes, the grind size is seriously inconsistent at coarser grinds. Tons and tons of fines mixed in. If you want to grind for manual brew, do not get this grinder. Beyond that, the automatic weigh function was completely off when I received the grinder. It was routinely grinding out a full gram more than requested. It took me weeks of back-and-forth with Baratza support to find out there's an undocumented (I read the whole manual cover to cover, it's not in there) weight offset you can use. This fixed the weighing issue, but only after weeks of frustration and wasted coffee. Cannot recommend this grinder. Terrible grind quality for manual brewing and terrible customer service.

Not worth it

Unless your portafilter is perfectly flat snd big enough, this does not work. If there is any kind of cone shape in your conical, weighing will not work. Do not get unless you can easily return
