A New Generation
The first version of the award-winning Fellow Ode coffee grinder was just that: an ode to larger grinders of superior quality, like the Mahlkonig EK43 for the home market. However, just as soon as the Ode was released, the designers at Fellow were already busy thinking of improvements for their flagship grinder’s next iteration. Now, only two years later, those ideas are realized with the Fellow Ode Gen 2 coffee grinder. Significant improvements have been made to the Gen 2 Ode, such as a larger hopper, a new load bin design, and new, anti-static technology, but the most welcomed addition are the new, best-in-class Gen 2 burrs.
Internals, Reimagined
When designing the original Ode coffee grinder, Fellow understood that grinders that market themselves as being “all-round” typically have to make compromises that negatively affect grind quality at certain ranges. In keeping with this idea, Fellow has kept the Ode Gen 2 as a perfect home grinder for brewing applications, specifically. With 31 stepped adjustments, the Ode Gen 2 is capable of grinding for very fine AeroPress and Primso settings up to the coarseness needed for a French press or cold brew. With the Gen 2 burrs, fine grinding has never been simpler. The new burr set is capable of grinding at a mere 250 microns and the flat burr profile offers unparalleled clarity in the cup. Additionally, the Fellow Ode Gen 2 can be fitted with 64mm SSP burrs if desired.
Nothing Lost, Everything Gained
Fellow’s Gen 2 Ode grinder retained nearly all of the features that were seen on the Gen 1, but improved upon those features massively. Firstly, the Gen 2 integrates new, anti-static technology that keeps grinding clean and efficient. The now larger, single-dosing hopper, paired with the anti-static technology and a grounds knocker, ensures that you’re getting every bit of coffee out that went in. The grounds catch is still magnetically aligned with the grounds chute for exact placement every time. The Ode Gen 2 also features the same automatic stop function that was seen on the Gen 1 that automatically disengages the motor once all the coffee that went into the hopper has been ground. Finally, the Gen 2 Ode boasts the same small footprint as the Gen 1, and comes in both white and black colors to easily fit into any space and look right at home.
