Siphons have been around forever; what sort of change is worth making? With the NEXT Siphon, Hario has introduced the latest innovation in siphon brewing, elevating this classic method with contemporary design. And they've made sure steps forward.

Convenience. Hario's redesigned handle offers a better grip with rubber coating. It's not only easier to hold, but, unlike its plastic predecessor, it won't heat while you brew. The NEXT Siphon's lower chamber has also been updated, with new volumetric markings at 400, 500, and 600 milliliters. As always, the lid serves to keep heat in during extraction and keep the upper chamber stable afterwards.

Versatility. Siphons are known for their distinctive cloth filter, which permits the passage of oils but not suspended solids. The result: a crisp, clean cup with poppin' flavor and full intensity. But if you enjoy coffee that's more textured with solids and has a heavier mouthfeel, you can now use the NEXT Siphon with the included metal filter. The choice is yours.

Class. The shape of the NEXT Siphon makes a strong statement. Straight lines and soft colors have been replaced with sleek curves and sharp black-and-chrome contrast (that's right, no more brown handle). The walls of the brewing chamber lean out at wide angles, expanding the siphon's physical presence and pushing the limits of conventional design. And that goofy bulb of a bowl is no more; the new lower chamber's flat bottom has a stronger look and even holds more coffee.

Features:

  • 20-ounce / 600-milliliter capacity
  • Compatible with Yama butane burner
  • Heat-resistant glass
  • Made in Japan

Includes: upper and lower brewing chambers, lid, stand, alcohol burner, spoon/stirrer, metal filter, cloth filter, and filter holder. Extra cloth filters available for purchase.

Brewing takes on a new dimension

I hesitated buying a siphon mainly because I thought it might be a tad too difficult to get it 'right'. I don't concern myself with reputed 'messier' cleanup because, hey, I'm a french press fan as well, so really my only reason for not jumping into a siphon was fear of a lousy cup because "a barista at a coffee shop didn't make it". We'd been having little success with another method and on a whim I said, 'That's it! I'm ordering the Hario Siphon.' (I gained confidence to 'get it right' by pulling it out of goodness knows where) Never, I mean never, going back to my 'other' brewing method. Not only is coffee in the morning at our house much more flavorful, but we're also having a blast making it.

great tasting coffee

I find that it works well if the boiling water comes into the funnel, reduce the heat and then stir in the coffee, so the filter from water ebollution lets less grounds through.

Great for hot alcoholic beverages!

My boyfriend and I first saw this siphon at White Dog Café. He ordered a Riff Raff which was gin infused with citrus. It was so delicious I had to buy one! Only wish recipes weren't so hard to find!

New addition to the brew arsenal!

Well packaged and thorough instructions (in lots of languages). Felt confident after two attempts and yielded a great cup of coffee. Worth the effort to learn.

Easier than you think

If you're looking at this page, you must either be really into coffee or shopping for someone who is. Either way. This Hario siphon does not disappoint, at all. Watch a few YouTube vids on how to do this (the directions that come with the siphon are not as helpful as you would hope--it's like watching a Japanese movie dubbed into English, by a middle schooler). You'll get the hang of this right away. My first try was a win. Incredible coffee! I bought the butane burner with it, and that helps a lot. The process is very quick, easy to fine tune (from grind to brewing temp/time), and very easy to clean up (no more fuss than a french press, really). And, seriously good coffee. As for this product, it does cost more than the Yama siphons out there. But, Hario has established a good brand reputation in coffee geek circles, for good reason. This siphon brewer is made well, of good and durable materials, and looks good. The thick borosilicate glass is what you are spending money for here, and it is worth every penny; also, the sturdy, well-balanced rubber-insulated stand. Quality product that makes incredible coffee. And, let's face it, it is a ton of fun to use and it never fails to solicit ooohs and aaahs from friends.

Great!

Very good coffee maker. I owned a Bodem siphon years ago. This one has a better filter (the metal one, haven't tried the cloth one yet), and I like that it comes with the burner- I could not use the glass on my induction cooktop.

The Best Japanese Coffee Syphon Abailable.

The best Japanese coffee Syphon available. This company is the best to order from. No shipping and Handling fee!!! But they packed with a roll of soft cotton type material and every thing I ordered was in perfect condition although their was some normal dents on the outer box. On top of that, there was no tax since I order from out of state!!! It came in 3 days although It was free shipping with $100 minimum order!!!! This is the most reliable company! They even included the coffee mug for free as a gift!!!! I originally looking for the rare shaped paper filters I can only get at William-Sonoma or Crates and Barrells. This has more stuff than those big companies!!!!! I strongly recommend this company. Another plus is they answer to your question within 24 hours!

Great manual coffee maker

This is my first syphon, but the quality it makes really stands out compare to other popular full immersion method. The result is clean and surprisingly, the lower chamber has great thermal protection for your coffee to stay hot for hours without a lid. Hario Next feels more modern with the design of the handle as oppose to other syphons, which is a classic design I highly recommend getting a butane burner for cleaner fuel and heat control.

Excellent Siphon brewer

This brewer has a very high quality feel to it. The metal filter leaves just a bit to much sediment for my taste but still tasted excellent. I preferred the cloth filter, but anybody who likes french press will probably love the metal filter. Handle is thick, has a nice grip, and does not get hot, I would say it is just a tad over priced but it is excellent quality.

Best cup of home brew I've ever had.

A simple process (relatively easy cleaning) that leads to an richly textured brew. Don't skimp on the beans or grind too finely, and use the metal filter. You'll end up with a dense flavor that matches most coffee houses (Starbucks will never taste the same). If you've ever been to a great coffee house, where you can taste the natural oils of the coffee provide the flavor that, in absence, are normally compensated with through artificial flavoring and overused creamer, then you know what this siphon can provide. The only thing missing is the lovely flower that your favorite barista paints atop your cappuccino.

Excellent, needs burner option

I've long been fascinated with the Siphon Pot, and wanted a balancing siphon pot thinking it was far too complicated after having seen a friend demonstrate it using his fancy technique. It's actually not difficult at all, and I had it down after just a few cups. The coffee it makes is fantastic. My issue with this one in particular is that there is no option for what kind of burner you want, and an alcohol burner is forced on you. I really don't like alcohol, and would have preferred butane, even if it cost more. I feel like I was forced to pay for something I didn't want. Needless to say, after a cup or two, I've abandoned the alcohol burner and am using butane.
