The Helor 101 is by far one of the smartest hand grinders to hit the market in recent years. It's engineered from the ground up to satisfy the wants and needs of picky coffee enthusiasts, as well as replicate the grind quality of far more expensive commercial grinders as closely as possible. The look and feel make all this obvious, as the unibody aluminum grinder chassis feels extremely solid and precise in the hand, with two ceramic bearings making for a smooth and stable grind. The big wooden pommel on the handle is both stylish and comfortable to hold, eliminating much of the unpleasant wobble and hand cramping that comes with some other hand grinders. With stepless grind adjustment, you can easily dial in for espresso or dial up to a drip grind with just a few turns of the dial. Both the upper and lower chambers hold between 30-40 grams of coffee - whole beans and ground, respectively.

We've chosen to include both burr sets with our Helor stock, so you can tailor the grinder to whatever your brewing needs may be. The contemporary burr set (identified by the alloy's darker color as well as a more angular primary cutting surface) is more tailored toward espresso grinding and similar fine grinds. The conventional burr set, made of steel and featuring curvier cutting surfaces, excels more in the drip range and eagerly cuts through your doses for a quick grind with great results in the cup.

What's in the box:

  • Helor 101 hand grinder with removable grinds catch and handle assembly
  • Twin burr sets: conventional steel burrs which excel at drip brewing grinds, and contemporary alloy burrs for grinding Turkish and espresso
  • Spare o-ring grinds catch seal
  • Rubber grip sleeve
  • Allen wrench and pin tool for burr removal/maintenance

Features:

  • Exceptional construction and grind quality - a superb hand grinder!
  • 30-40 gram capacity
  • Twin 38 mm burr sets to suit your needs: one for finer espresso/Turkish grinds, one for drip and press
  • Comfortable wooden handle
  • Dual ceramic bearings for smooth and stable grinding
  • Stepless self-locking adjustment ring
  • Unibody aluminum chassis
  • Includes burr removal tools and spare o-ring
  • Weight: 585 grams/1.3 lbs
  • Dimensions: 2.5" W (about 7" including handle) x 6" H (7.7" including handle)
  • Materials: aluminum, stainless steel, metal alloy (contemporary burr), ceramic bearings, rubber o-rings and sleeve
  • Grinder parts made in China, burrs made in Italy, assembled in Australia

Fabulous

This is a fabulous hand grinder. We went from a Hario Skerton, to a Porlex, to a OE Lido E .... this is by far the best for ease of use, setting the grind size, for small amounts. We still use the Lido, but now we can have 2 grinders set at different sizes to use. And the Lido for larger amounts. We want hand grinders to minimize our dependence on electricity.

amazing design and execution

Top-notch build quality, very sturdy and polished feel, love the handle ergonomics and wooden ball for easy grip. Very quick and easy to grind a v60 worth of beans. Also very easy to align the burrs and adjust grind size. Just wish it had arrows for which direction tightens vs. loosens the grind, but I'm sure i'll remember with more time. This grinder outperforms my baratza electric grinders and is perfect for work - small, and totally quiet. A huge huge upgrade from the porlex and hario handgrinders as well.

Helor 101 with two burrs

Precision crafted. This thing feels just like a lighter version of Portaspresso Rosco hand grinder (I have used and use that as reference standard for portable hand grinder). The rotation is silky smooth (love the ceramic bearings). The OE Lido2 (current version) feels like a cheap toy compared to this. Grinds for drip is excellent. Yet to use as espresso grinder. Please see home-barista.com thread on Helor101 where one respected member who owns HG-1 and both Monoliths compares then Helor101 output to the Monoliths.

great grinder for travel

I’ve been using this grinder for a couple of weeks to grind coffee for my aeropress. It is great and travels well - grinds 18grams of beans easily. It is also very easy to adjust and seems well-built.

Awesome grinder!

Excellent quality. Easy to use. I am using it strictly for espresso. Love that it is easy to use, sturdy. Grind is consistent from shot to shot. Love it! Got it a few weeks ago until I am able to buy a high-end single dose electric grinder. But this is not going anywhere... I might buy another to leave at our vacation home. Glad to see that Prima-Coffee now carries them. I found out after I ordered directly. Could have save some $$. So the second one I buy will be from you guys!

Helor 101 with both burr sets

So far using just the non-espresso burrs I am completely satisfied with the brew (Clever and FP) grind quality. I have no plans to use espresso burrs as have 68mm conical burr espresso grinder and this Helor101 is eventually being gifted to my family for brew and espresso grinding. Just holding then grinder, it feels of quality. My reference standard portable hand grinder is the Portaspresso Rosco and this Helor 101 feels and grinds like it (just physically smaller circumference and lighter mass). I have used other hand grinder and the Helor 101 is my recommendation for price und $300. The ceramic bearing make turning the handle effortless. My only "cons" is it has smaller circumference vs. other hand grinder so if you have really big hands Helor 101 may not feel right. I'd just recommend using thicker rubber band for gripping. On home-barista.com tread of Helor101, one owner rates if near his two electric Monolith Conical and Flat Burr grinder and states grinds better than HG-1.

Awesome grinder

This grinder is awesome! I have another hand grinder and an automatic grinder, both a little more expensive than this one, and the Helor definitely holds its own. The ergonomics are superior, and the grinding is almost effortless as a result. I have used it primarily for espresso thus far, and the grind size looks consistent throughout. My only gripe is Helor refers one to videos on the web to show how to use it, and how to clean it, and does not provide a manual. Well, the videos look nice, but they need more detail. Big Kudos to Prima Coffee for filling the gap with a very detailed video--I would not have been able to change the burrs without it.

great grinder!! (but don't overtighten fragile bearings)

bought this grinder with both sets of burrs but have switched to using mostly the contemporary these days. GREAT for espresso and aeropress - the simple design and stepless adjustments make dialing in a new blend very easy. only problem is that the ceramic bearings are very fragile and i accidentally destroyed them by overtightening the cap onto the drive shaft. however, i was able to find replacement (albeit stainless steel) bearings on amazon very cheaply.
