The Kalita Thin Spout Kettle is the perfect option for the pour-over coffee lover who usually prepares 1-2 cups at a time. The Thin Spout kettle has a capacity of 700 milliliters, and weighing in at only 345 grams, it is our lightest kettle offering and very comfortable to hold. The thin-spout design and overall ergonomics of the kettle's design allow for a very slow and controlled flow rate, crucial to brewing with the Wave, and helpful for precision pouring with the Chemex, V60, and other pour-over methods.

  • .7L Capacity
  • Ultra-Thin Spout

Kalita is a Japanese based company that specializes in producing coffee brewing equipment. Most notably they are the creators of the Kalita Wave Dripper and Kalita Wave Kettle. The Kalita Wave Dripper brings an innovative design to the pour over process with its wave filter and flat-bottom geometry. The wave filter helps temperature stability by keeping the water away from the brewer material and using air as an insulator. The flat bottom geometry helps provide an even extraction.

This may sound like a stupid question, but if you use this kettle on a gas stove, won't the handle be too hot to hold without a mitt of some kind?

Asked by: Peter L
Thanks. Alternatively, can the Kalita Wave Pot Kettle, with its wooden handle, be handled without a mitt when heated on a gas stove?

How do you know when the water is boiling? Does it just start steaming? Does the lid jiggle? Additionally, are there holes in the top to put a thermometer? Do you have to take the lid off to put a thermometer in to monitor the temperature?

Asked by: Jack S
We'd recommend leaving the lid off while the kettle is heating to keep track of progress. You can also purchase a small thermometer so that after you've boiled the water, you know when proper brewing temp has been reached.
