Simplifying the Process

More than 98% of brewed coffee is made up solely of water, whether it’s in the form of percolation brewing, immersion brewing, or espresso. However, it is often the most overlooked variable in the brewing process. It can be simple to find the other necessary components to make great coffee, such as grinders and brewers for specific methods, and great brewing recipes are all over the internet, making them easy to replicate. When it comes to how the most crucial ingredient in your coffee is integrated into your brewing routine, things tend to become slightly more foggy and difficult to navigate. The Lotus Coffee Water Kit aims to simplify this by providing all of the necessary ingredients to add to distilled or reverse osmosis water to ensure that what you’re left with is the best end result possible in your cup.

Lotus Coffee Water Kit

Variables Controlled

Pre-packaged minerals for your brewing water isn’t exactly a new concept, but this option doesn’t offer much in terms of clarity about how much of which minerals are being added to your water. The Lotus Coffee Water Kit contains one bottle of each of the following minerals: calcium chloride, potassium bicarbonate, magnesium chloride, and sodium bicarbonate. Each bottle comes with a 450mL mixing bottle and a small dropper to simplify the process of adding an exact amount of these minerals to your water to create new recipes or replicate existing recipes to maximize clarity, sweetness, body, and acidity, tailoring your water to your expectations. With the use of the precision droppers, you’ll know exactly what’s in your water, and how each mineral contributes to the overall taste of the resulting shot of espresso or filter brewed coffee.

Lotus Coffee Water Kit

Alkalinity & Hardness

Each Lotus Coffee Water Kit contains two minerals that contribute to your water’s hardness and its alkalinity. Calcium and magnesium affect the overall hardness of your water, while the sodium and potassium will affect the alkalinity. In simpler terms, calcium and magnesium will affect the general hardness (GH) of your water, helping to accentuate more fruity, floral tasting notes and emphasizing body, mouthfeel, and complexity, respectively. The sodium and potassium, on the other hand, will affect the alkalinity, or carbonate hardness (KH) which will serve as a buffer to acidity and can be used to counteract bitterness from over extraction of your coffee. Each drop of calcium and magnesium will add 10 parts per million (PPM) to your water, while one drop of sodium or potassium will add 5 PPM to your water. With the Lotus Coffee Water Kit, you can create recipes that will emphasize clarity and acidity to your fruit-forward, lighter roasts, or you can highlight the sweetness and mouthfeel of your darker roasts or your espresso blends.
