The new DISK-Fine by Able Brewing is the slimmer sister of the celebrated DISK stainless steel filter, designed for use with the Aerobie AeroPress®. Like the standard DISK, the DISK-Fine is a reusable alternative to paper filters, but features even smaller holes for an even cleaner cup.

From our DISK Fine recipe contest, here is Jesse Gordon's winning recipe:

  1. Inverted
  2. 22g coffee
  3. Medium-fine grind (Finer grind than a pour-over)
  4. 200mL water
  5. Pour 100mL of the water
  6. Stir 3-4 times
  7. Pour remaining 100mL
  8. Steep for 1:00
  9. Quickly flip and press for 15 seconds, stopping when you hear the “hiss”
  10. Add 3-4 ounces of water post-brew

Able Brewing is the creation of some upcoming coffee professionals from Portland, Oregon who are seeking to simplify and improve coffee brewing devices. Their creations aspire for increased sustainability through creating reusable products and clean tasting cups of coffee. To date, the company has created two stainless steel filters. The first filter is the Able Disk, a stainless steel filter produced for the Aeropress. The second is the Able Kone, a stainless filter for Chemex pour over brewers. These stainless coffee filters not only cut down on paper waste, but also remove the paper taste from the brewing equation, producing a clean tasting, full-bodied cup.
Able DISK-Fine Filter for AeroPress is rated 4.777777777777778 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even better than expected As others have indicated, this really brings out the best of the Aeropress, producing a deeper, richer, more complex cup of coffee. Able's description might lead one to believe that, since it's thinner, it's fragile and easily subject to damage. Not so, in my experience; you'd have to be pretty ham-fisted to damage this thing, so that needn't be a concern. A tip I haven't seen mentioned: If, at the end of the plunge you hold the body down against your cup and pull UP on the plunger - maybe an inch or so - you'll effectively remove almost all of the grounds from the disk - further expediting an already quick cleanup process. Now, order one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'll never go back to paper. I've had a aeropress for some time and have been extremely happy with it, other than the paper filters that sometimes get bent or not stay in place. Then I remembered that a friend had a steel mesh filter, so went searching for it. This works great! I purchased the fine/medium filter because I was a little worried that it may not strain out the small particles (like some french presses), but I can hardly notice the difference between the paper and steel filters. In fact, I may like the steel one better because it lets more of the oils pass through. After your're done, just rinse and you're ready to go again. I'll never go back to paper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Equipment at a Great Price This is a great fine metal filter for the AeroPress. It's packed to prevent bending and includes alternative brewing instructions on how to most effectively use it to make the best cup of coffee. I have been using it as a traditional AeroPress filter with espresso grind and it works just fine using that method as well. The only thing to note is that a fine filter is much different than a paper filter and will let through some coffee sediment. This is not a big issues in any way, but if you have been using paper filter and switch to this one it is something to take note of before you gulp down that last bit in the bottom of the cup the first time you use the filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than paper? After reviewing this filter I decided to try it out and thankfully the positive reviews like this one were true. Most reviews said that paper filtered out more/all grounds but also something else. One comment indicated it was more espresso like and I concur but note an Aeropress is not an espresso machine. Try it!. Of course everyone has their own opinion but I like this filter. It is very thin and will require care not to bend when handling but that seems a small price to pay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Able DISK filter for Aeromaster Able and Aeromaster are to be commended !I started using the Able filter soon after it arrived. It does not disappoint. It complements the Aeromaster press beautifully. It does improve the process of coffee licquor extraction quite a bit when compared to the paper filter provided with the press. Aeromaster has made a difference in the way we prepare coffee and for this, they are to be commended. Serge Mosovich MD

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than paper Yes, its better than paper. Why, you might ask! Your initial thoughts might be that in the long run it will save your money, save you some time waiting on shipping or things like that. But my main reason for it being better than paper is that it allows some more oils through the filter and has finally got my cup of coffee too that euphoria state that we all look for. Very pleased with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter! I purchased this filter about a week ago because I've grown tired of throwing away paper filters. Not only does this filter reduce waste, I've noticed it brews a better cup of coffee because it seems to filter out smaller particles. It's easy to clean and use. Well worth the $12!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent accessory to the Aero Press Great little product, great service, quick delivery. The coffee out of my AeroPress tastes even better with the screen rather than paper filters. I bought the fine screen, and it flows well, is a milisecond quicker than a paper filter, and is all around better. Love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's alright... I have used this a few times and it seems to not be fine enough of a screen... I get a pretty decent amount of grounds in my coffee... Am I doing something wrong? The only good thing I've experienced is not wasting paper filters...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more disposables! Works great. Produces a fine cup. I'm so glad to be free of the need to buy and re-buy paper filters. This product should pay for itself quickly as paper filters in my local shop cost $5 a pack.
