Acaia has been setting the bar for coffee brewing scales for years, and now they are reintroducing an award-winning design: the Lunar. The new, 2021 version of the Lunar presents several improvements from Acaia’s previous iteration of this professional-grade scale while maintaining all of the original features that made it the professional barista’s scale of choice. A few of the upgrades come as a real-time flow-rate indicator, customizable espresso workflow parameters, faster response times, and an optional readability of 0.01g for ultimate efficiency and the highest precision.
Measure Espresso in Real Time
Acaia’s Real-Time Flow-Rate indicator is shown as an LED bar at the top of the display, allowing you to visualize the flow rate of your espresso and spot channeling while brewing. Small, circular LEDs measure your flow rate with the first LED representing 0.1g per second on the left and 3.4g per second on the right. If the flow-rate of your espresso exceeds 5g per second, the last three LEDs will light up with enhanced brightness, signifying a high flow rate and possible channeling or erosion of the coffee puck. This feature adds a new layer of efficiency to the Lunar, aiding in dialing in your espresso and your puck preparation routine.
New Weighing & Brewing Modes
Among its many upgrades, the 2021 Lunar showcases a variety of new weighing and brewing modes to further simplify your workflow. A dual display mode shows the weight being applied to the scale and a timer, making tracking your espresso shots simpler than ever. Another beneficial mode for brewing is the Automatic-Tare, Automatic-Start mode, which enables the scale to recognize when the first drop of espresso has fallen and automatically activates your timer. A dosing, or Automatic-Tare mode, simplifies the repetitive weighing of coffee. While in this mode, the Lunar automatically detects your vessel, be it portafilter or dosing cup, then automatically tares the scale back to zero. This feature is especially useful when weighing back-to-back doses.
