Baratza's newest grinder is bringing more to the table than ever before. The innovative new Sette 270 features almost 300 grind settings, a brand new conical burr set, and a pass-through grinding system that leaves almost no retained coffee grounds behind. Game: changed.

Continuing their trend of hitting all the right notes for home grinder excellence, Baratza's new Sette brings further innovation to the market and even more usability to your home. Like the Vario, the Sette 270 uses timed dosing and three programmable presets, so you can create and store doses for your espresso and drip brews with ease. With 30 macro grind settings, and a stepless micro grind range, the Sette is poised to meet a range of coffee brewing needs, and especially espresso. What's more, the unique pass-through grinding mechanism is superbly efficient, leaving almost no ground coffee behind even at fine espresso settings. All in all, the Sette is poised to become the new star of Baratza's grinder lineup.

Grinding innovation:

The Sette's unique approach to grinding is more than a novel technique; it's designed to grind faster, grind better, and save you coffee. Unlike most grinders, the center cone burr stays fixed in place, and the outer ring burr spins around it. This new grinding mechanism allows coffee beans to feed directly into the burrs, and for grounds to fall directly into your bin or portafilter - there's almost no place for retained grounds to stay behind.

New burrs:

The brand new Etzinger burr set is crafted for fast grinding and better uniformity. Grind up to 4-5 grams/sec at espresso settings, and up to 7 grams/sec at drip settings. What's more, your coffee's flavor clarity will be superb, with fewer fines and more even extractions.

Transforming forks:

Whether you grind for espresso or press pot, the new forks are designed to sit where you need them. Simply push in on the right fork and rotate in or out to set them in the portafilter position or the open position. With the center fork in place, you can even grind hands-free.

Stepless adjustment:

At long last, Baratza have created a grinder with fully stepless adjustment, using the micro scale of the Sette's range. While the macro adjustment is stepped, the micro adjustment allows for infinitely precise tweaking of grind settings, perfect for dialing in your espresso.

Baratza

Baratza is the company at the forefront of home coffee grinding innovation. Before Baratza entered the coffee manufacturing scene, one was hard pressed to find an affordable burr coffee grinder. Now, home baristas and cafes alike have multiple affordable burr grinders to choose from courtesy of the U.S. based company. Baratza currently offers five different burr grinders: Baratza Maestro Plus, Baratza Virtuoso, Baratza Virtuoso Preciso, Baratza Vario, and the weight based grinding Baratza Vario-W. In addition to this lineup, Baratza has also released a weight based grinding attachment for their grinders, the Baratza Esatto. One popular mantra from the coffee world is: the biggest investment a coffee fan can make is in a high quality grinder. Baratza has made the "investment" part of that coffee truism a lot more attainable.

Poor grinder for pour-over

Great grinder for home if you drink mostly espresso. As I only do pour-over, I‰Ûªm returning the product. After speaking with customer service at Prima, it appears to be rather an accepted fact that the Sette 270 is not very good at coarse grinds. That‰Ûªs sort of an under statement based on my experience with it. It always ground very fine regardless of how I set the adjustments. I still feel as though I was doing something wrong because the documentation clearly talks about grinding for drip, but Prima told me I‰Ûªd be better off with the Virtuoso, so back goes the Sette 270.

Baratza Sette

I purchased a Baratza Vario and an Alex Duetto II from Prima eight years ago. There service was and has been fantastic. While cleaning my Vario, I screwed it up. (See below if you own a Vario). So the Sette is IMHO much better than the Vario. Now, I have never owned a Titan class grinder, but after reading a test of the Sette v.s. the Malkonig 30, and they were pretty equal, I pulled the trigger. PROS: the Sette is fast. I can grind ~17gm in 5 sec, which took the Vario 19 sec. Better: the grind distribution is so much better that I don‰Ûªt have to use the WDT technique before tamping. Third: the flip switch to remove the hopper without emptying the beans was a great idea. Fourth: the stop and start feature is great so you can pause and shake the grounds around a little before finishing the grind is nice. Fifth: the rubberized and adjustable arms that hold the ports filter work great, and can fold out of the way if you‰Ûªre cleaning or want to use the supplied bin. Fifth: you can remove the burr grinder assembly and look down and see how clean it is and realize there is no grind retention. It just shoots straight through! Last: the Sette looks great on the countertop and isn‰Ûªt large. It doesn‰Ûªt look out of place like the majority of other comparable quasi-commercial grinders in the market. CONS: it‰Ûªs noisy, although no more than my Baratza Vario was. (Note to Vario owners, if you are turning it over with the hopper and burr grinder removed and tapping it to remove grinds, the bottom assembly, which is attached to the drive cable under tension, can fall out. You have to take the whole thing apart to get the lower portion back on it‰Ûªs drive spindle, and it‰Ûªs a pain in the butt, and even after using the little adjustment hex wrench, I couldn‰Ûªt get it to grind to espresso consistency. I may send it back to Baratza, or I might just put it on the camp fire and send a burning arrow at it.)

Very Pleased

Great service, quick shipping, and awesome product. Would buy from Prima again. And the sette 270 is an impressive espresso grinder. Can also grind up to a good v60 size, but wouldn't try for chemex or French press unless you have the other burr set. For espresso it has been awesome, very fast, not too loud, and evenly ground without clumps. Highly recommend

Great so far

This grinder has been really great for me. I haven't had to use the shim yet, but I may be still working through the break in period. I was concerned that the noise might be an issue based on some reviews, but apparently my other grinder is so wildly loud that this one is tame by comparison. I also have the time dialed in such that nearly the perfect amount of coffee is ground each time. Really happy with it.

Great for espresso grind

I don't have to say anything about this grinder as long as you use this for espresso. It has great performance as a home use grinder. What I want to say is that this grinder cannot grind coarse. I tried grinding coarsely the most, but it was still fine. I understand this grinder is not for pour-over or french press, so it doesn't affect my rate for this grinder, but just wanted to make sure this point.

Great Conical Burr Grider

For those looking to 'up your coffee game to the next notch', the grinder s one of the most important upgrades. The Baratza Sette 270 is a great tool for the job. Great range of settings; holds settings well; can go all the way to espresso grind and out to pour-over; design provides very little to no residual grinds left in the grinder after grinding. All around FANTASTIC upgrade to my game.

Sette 270- WOW !!

Wow- I was blown away with this grinder. Until you experience the Sette 270 for yourself, you really can't appreciate how great this grinder is. I purchased this grinder for my espresso needs, but it works great for my V60 and Chemex brewing as well. The grind is very consistent, uniform & fast. The Sette is definitely geared toward the finer grinds and produces a fluffy, consistent, uniform grind. It really is amazing at this price point and has definitely improved the flavor profile of my extractions. Great job Baratza!! And as always, Prima was great to do business with!

best espresso grinder for the money

this grinder is cost effective, grind effective, and looks/footprint effective. It has upped the quality of my (home) espresso 100%. My home brew shots can easily compare and compete with any and all downtown Chicago coffee/espresso houses. They have lost my business. Why should I go there when my product is far superior, and cheaper?

Mind blowing

Absolutely thrilled with what Sette 270 (time based grinder) does for espresso. To grind satisfactorily for brew methods requiring a significantly coarser grind, one does have to purchase the accessory burr that Barraza is now offering on it's website.

Sette is more like a "dieci"

The Sette 270 is an incredibly capable, consistent and well designed grinder. I wish there was more metal in its construction but the plastic is high quality and Baratza's support and warranty give me the extra piece of mind.

Most Impressive

I've been waiting to purchase this grinder since I saw it on youtube in May. Once it was available it sold out pretty fast, so I had to wait until now. It's amazingly fast and the noise isn't so bad if you're coming from the grinder in the false burr article, so this was a pretty big leap in quality. I love the consistency of the grinds and the coffee is great! Loving the grinder!

Wow!

The Baratza Sette is indeed a game-changer (for espresso anyways). It has amazingly increased the quality and repeatability of my shots. Prima-Coffee was also great to deal with and quick to get everything out. Can't recommend both the grinder and Prima enough!

A great grinder!

Consistent particle size is essential to making really great coffee. The Sette does this better than grinders I've had at my coffee shop that cost three times as much. The three portion control settings make it easy and quick to dose out a consistant amount of coffee for drip brew or for espresso.

great grinder

This grinder does everything it advertises. You can really dial in the grind, there is virtually NO static at all, and grinding a lb of coffee for a gift is done in no time at all.

The grinder has been wonderful so far. We do drip and espresso grinds, and both are working wonderfully. Great flavor, little to no grinds retention, easy work flow, couldn't be happier.
