Brew Method: Pour Over

The Hario V60 03 is a conical pour-over brewer design to allow coffee to extract out of both the sides and the bottom of the coffee dripper. The V60 has raised ridges along the side-wall which allows the coffee to exit out the sides, creating an even extraction for all of the coffee in the dripper. The V60 03 is the large size of the Hario V60, ideal for brewing coffee for three to four people.

Pouring technique and flow rate is important on the V60. We recommend using a pouring kettle like the Hario Buono Kettle for best results. Once you've gotten your kettle ready, begin by pouring just enough water to wet the coffee grounds and let it sit for 30-45 seconds. After this time of pre-infusion, begin pouring slowly in and out in concentric circles, keeping the water volume from half to three-quarters of the way full. Try to keep from pouring along the edge of the dripper. Continue pouring, keeping the water volume consistent, until you've reached the desired total brew volume. For beginning brewing parameters we recommend: 18-24 grams of coffee (medium grind), 300-400mL of water, 198-203° water temperature, and a 2-3 minute total brew time.

Once you get the hang of it, the V60 is quick, simple, and capable of consistently producing a great cup of coffee. This means that all of the coffee grounds share equal contact time with the water, better ensuring that all of the coffee grounds are being brewed evenly. The V60 03 is a perfect option for those wanting a dripper crafted for serving 3-4 people. Like most pour-over brewers, the V60 is easy to clean up: simply dump out the filter, rinse, and if you wish, put in the dishwasher (don't forget to take off the detachable plastic bottom on the glass V60).
