The newly designed KN-8828B-2-K gives you complete manual control of all roast parameters. Simply plug the roaster in and press the "POWER/START" button three times and the roasting process begins. Add the beans at the machine's prompting or at your preferred drop-in temperature, then either allow them to roast and eject automatically or manually end the roast at any time. As you advance in knowledge of coffee roasting, the various parameters of the roast can be easily controlled via the control panel. This Hottop model comes equipped with an updated thermocouple that gives faster and more accurate temperature readings. For more on the thermocouple, read below. The Hottop also comes in a fully programmable model, the KN-8828P-2.

Highlighted Features

  • Complete control. Maximum temperature and roast time can be set before the roast begins and the fan speed and heating element power can be modified during the roast.
  • Programmable profiles. At the conclusion of your roast (after the cooling of the beans is complete), the machine will beep and you will be presented with the option to save the completed roast into non-volatile memory, including all the changes you have made. Up to three profiles can be saved in this manner.
  • Update K-style thermocouple. The Hottop has gained a dedicated following among many home roasters, and they've found a way to improve their favorite machine: adding a thermocouple. Until now, if one of these dedicated Hottop users wanted to know a more precise bean temperature than the general environmental temperature given by the original Hottop button-style thermal sensor, they have had to buy a thermocouple and install it themselves. Now, this basic model comes with a k-style thermocouple that extends out from the rear wall and provides a more accurate display of the bean temperature as well as a faster response time.

Hottop Coffee Roasters incorporate commercial grade features into a home roasters. Unlike many home roasters, Hottops allow the roaster to monitor the entire roasting process. This includes being able to see the beans, as well as control the heating element and the fan (on the basic model). The Hottop design is advanced enough to allow a skilled roaster to determine optimal parameters, but it is also simple enough to enable newcomers to produce evenly roasted, fresh coffee with a fantastic flavor. Built with quality materials, including the one-of-a-kind cooling tray that works to cool the beans in under four minutes, the Hottop Coffee Roaster is able to produce roasted coffee on par with any coffee you could purchase at the store. With green coffee bean selling for half the price of roasted beans, the Hottop is an investment that will pay you back in the long run.
Hottop Home Coffee Roaster KN-8828B-2-K is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm already getting awesome coffee My espresso coach told me to a Hottop KN-8828B-2k if possible and I'm really glad I did. My second batch yielded coffee comparable in quality what I have been getting from a high quality roaster. The manual is very well written. This is a big deal because proper coffee bean roasting is an art and a skill and instruction is important. Attached are pics of a shot of espresso and beans that have completed roasting and are in the cooling tray. Regarding the picture of beans, as mentioned, the espresso was high quality. Having said that, they are a bit darker than I like. I emailed and asked how to lighten them and they responded within a couple of hours with the information I requested. Home roasting really brings the cost down. So, I don't feel uptight when I lose coffee to dialing in the grind or when I mess up a shot. As far as negatives, there are none. There are a couple of things to be aware of. Roasting beans is not a matter of pressing a button and sitting back. Plan on spending about 20 minutes for every batch of about 8 oz of green beans. This is a pleasure to me and a hobby, so I'm good with it. While you can program in settings, I view this as an art and skilll to perfect and doing that means doing it manually for me. Also, a machine capable of delivering the quality that true espresso lover's want uses a lot of juice and gets very, very hot. I usually don't read all the instructions on something. However, the introductory information made the safety point over and over, so I did. It is critical that you read everything, especially the safety instructions. Fortunately, they have built many safety features into the unit. My first batch flipped a breaker and smoked up the house. The beans would have caught fire if not for a safety feature that ejects the beans as they approach combustion temperature. Fortunately, the manual prepared me that the first batch might not turn out as desired. I'm not worried about this. I choose to understand that this is a powerful device which requires focus and attention to use safely. My one sentence summary would be this: Do yourself a favor and get one of these if you can afford it and are willing to invest the time to get great coffee!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little machine The basic model of the HotTop is a wonderful roaster for home enthusiasts. It gives you the ability to control the heating element and fan speed at all times during the roast, allowing you to create roast profiles better than any other home roaster appliance. While this model does offer built-in memory for saving your roast profile, I've found that a more hands-on approach yields more consistent results.. but it is nice that it is available. The thermocouple built into the machine gives you real-time temperature reading of the roast progress, which is invaluable to perfecting a roast for a specific bean. This combined with the larger batch size makes this roaster excellent for the home roaster. Great, and worth the price, if you're getting serious about roasting. I also prefer this model to the more expensive "P" model due to the increased control on this basic model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Hottop owner I just received a Hottop 8828B-2K. It arrived in perfect condition - very well packed. After unboxing it and identifying all the different parts of it, I tried my first roast using the factory default profile. I used 250 grams of Sumatra green organic beans and let the roaster make all the decisions. The roast looks great - probably a "full city" (medium dark). Haven't used it yet but am pretty confident it will taste pretty good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from User friendly! I've had my B-2-K for a little over a week and have roasted several times. I've brought lots of coffee to work and have shared with friends. Everyone has complimented the roasts and some have even looked into roasting their own now.

I am concerned about the smoke. Is the smoke eliminated somehow? Or is it dispersed into the house like stove top roasting?

Asked by: tea leaf
This machine creates a fairly significant amount of smoke during roasting. You would not want to use it in the house.

Can I qualify for the 1 yr warranty if I buy this product from Prima? Would I register it through Prima or the manufacturer?

Absolutely! Hottop will keep record of the serial number and the time the machine was sold to Prima. The same 1 year coverage, beginning at the moment the customer purchases the machine, is offered no matter which authorized dealer you decide to purchase the machine through.
