Baratza's Preciso was a long-time contender for Best Home Espresso grinder, and for good reason. Its 40 mm conical steel burrs did an excellent job of grinding for espresso and drip. 40 steps of macro adjustment made for easy switching from fine to coarse, while a micro adjustment lever allowed the user to dial in fine settings needed for espresso. It is now discontinued and replaced by the Sette line, but you can still find the Preciso in second-hand markets and Baratza even offers parts for this wonderful little grinder!

With the Preciso, Baratza welcomes users to an entirely new level of control. It sports the same solid feature set that the Encore and Virtuoso fans have come to love. But also offers micro adjustment settings. Home baristas dial in and geek out.

Hey. Chris here with Prima Coffee Equipment. Today we're taking a look at Baratza'a Virtuoso Preciso. Preciso is a home coffee grinder that continues the line of innovation and simplicity that Baratza has excelled in. So let's take a look at a few things that make it look like the other Baratza grinders. Really easy adjustment here, twisting the hopper up top, and micro adjustments switch is here.

We have a timer on the side, much like the Virtuoso. You can release that and it will stay and click back down. Pulse grinding on the front. We have a five ounce grounds bin that pulls out very easily out of the bottom. And the hopper up top holds about half a pound. Inside of here, I take this off, twist that to get it off, remove this rubber gasket, the burrs are right here.

These are 40 millimeter steel burrs, conical burrs. And this is the updated burr set that comes with the Virtuoso as well. This burr set, when compared to the Encore, offers a wider range of grind setting. So you can go a little bit finer and a little bit coarser. It also grinds a little bit faster too. This is going to go 1 1/2 to over 2 grams per second compared to the Encore's, about one gram per second.

What makes the Preciso different from the rest. The big difference here is the micro adjustment. So looking at it here, we have 0 to 40 for macro adjustment, which is controlled by twisting the hopper, like so. Then we have 11 steps here. A through K controlled by this little switch here. These make small adjustments in the grind size. So I have the zero to 40 big steps here, I have these 11 small steps that are used to dial in. So what that really means is there are with any of 440 unique grind settings with the Preciso.

That's where the name Preciso actually comes from, these precise increments. It's great for dialing in. So, while these, and the Virtuoso and the Encore are recommended mostly for manual brewing, even for with individual manual brewing methods, you can dial in and get much closer to the exact extraction or time ectcetera that you'd like to. The Preciso, because of that feature, is especially recommended among those three different grinders for espresso.

It even comes with another little mount here. So, pulling out the grounds bin you can, instead, slide in this portafilter holder. Portafilter holder can make it really simple if you plan to use this mostly for espresso. And you can re-calibrate these grinders so that the available grind range will also accommodate certain brew methods if you want more coarse, or more medium, or more fine. You can do that.

So, this a great entry-level espresso grinder too. It's a solid manual brew grinder for home users, but also a great entry-level espresso grinder because you have these micro adjustment steps and a portafilter holder. Whole grinder overall weighs about eight pounds and it's little more solid than the Encore with this metal casing here. Overall it's a fantastic home grinder. Great for manual brewing espresso. I think you'll like it a lot. We firmly stand behind it. Thanks for watching.
