Spooky Brews | Black Charcoal Latte & S'Mores Iced Latte

Hey there - Mac from Prima here! Welcome to Spooky Brews! Today we’re making two Halloween-inspired drinks that are perfect for cooler weather and haunting vibes.

We’re keeping it classic with the gear - grinding with the Baratza Encore ESP, and pulling shots and steaming milk on the Breville Dual Boiler Espresso Machine. Let’s get started!

Black Magic Charcoal Latte

What you'll need:

  • 1tsp activated charcoal
  • 1tbsp honey
  • ½ cup milk
  • Splash of hot water
  • Shot of espresso
  • Black food coloring (optional)

First up is the Black Magic Charcoal Latte. It’s smooth, dark, and a little mysterious. We pulled this recipe directly from Kimbo Coffee’s website - shout out to them for putting together such a tasty drink!

I’m starting by mixing up a teaspoon of activated charcoal, a tablespoon of honey, and a splash of hot water. Just stir it until you’ve got a smooth paste.

Next, we’re going to get our shot of espresso pulled on the Breville Dual Boiler here. Once your shot is ready, pour it right into the charcoal mix. It might look intense, but it’s got a great balance of sweet and smoky.

We’re going to get our ½ cup of milk steamed and pour it in gently. You can add a drop of black food coloring if you want to really lean into the spooky theme.

If you want to go all-out, serve it in a fun mug! I’ve got my favorite jack-o-lantern here to get the job done. And there you have it: the Black Magic Charcoal Latte complete.

S'mores Iced Latte

What you'll need:

  • 125g confectioners' sugar
  • 125g brown sugar
  • 150g hot water
  • 50g liquid smoke
  • 50g rich chocolatey Ovaltine
  • 2oz cold brew concentrate
  • 4 graham crackers (optional)
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Next is the S’mores Iced Latte. This one’s all about cozy, toasty flavors with a little campfire nostalgia. Shout out to Owen, one of Prima’s customer service members, for putting this delicious recipe together for us.

We’re going to start by making the syrup. I’m mixing 125 grams of confectioners’ sugar, 125 grams brown sugar, 150 grams hot water, 50 grams liquid smoke, 50 grams of rich chocolatey Ovaltine, and a pinch of cinnamon. Stir it until everything’s dissolved, then stash it in the fridge until you need it.

If you’ve got time, try making graham cracker milk by steeping 4 crushed graham crackers in your milk overnight with a tea diffuser or cheesecloth. It adds an extra layer of flavor, but if not, regular dairy or oat milk work great too.

Today we’re using concentrate from our friends over at Pragmatic. You can also use chilled espresso if that’s more your vibe!

We’re going to need two cups to build this drink. One to mix and one to serve. In your mixing cup, add 50 grams of your syrup, and fill it about three-quarters of the way with graham cracker milk. Pour in 2 ounces of cold brew concentrate or chilled oespresso and mix it all up.

In your serving cup, spread marshmallow fluff on the sides of the cup to resemble cute little ghosts from the outside of the cup. Next pour in your mixture and top it off with ice. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and some crushed graham crackers on top.

On the outside of the cup, we’re going to take an dry erase marker and add little eyes for our ghosts! Just like that - a spooky addition to your campfire in a cup, aka the S’mores Iced Latte.

And that’s it! Two seasonal drinks that are easy to make and fun to share with your fellow ghouls and goblins. Check out our other 5 episodes of Spooky Brews for more hauntingly delicious Halloween-inspired beverages.

Thanks for watching and Happy Halloween!
