Mazzer Kony Conical Burr Espresso Grinder: Economic and more compact, the Kony offers many of the advantages of fancier espresso grinders without having to break the bank.

Transcript

Hey, I'm Steve with Prima Coffee Equipment. We're here today to talk about the Mazzer Kony Timer Edition. This is a great espresso grinder, real big, real beefy.

Mazzer Kony Conical Burr Espresso Grinder

63mm conical steel grinding burrs. Hopper Capacity: 2.9 lbs. 500 revolutions per minute.

Featured Product

This Mazzer's lower end, conical burr grinder so it's got 63 mm conical burrs that actually only spin about 420 RPM and that means that it's spinning lower and a little bit colder than the Major with larger burrs, higher RPM flat burr grinder. What that does for your coffee, it gives it a little bit more consistency. The temperature of the grinding over extended periods of grinding won't affect your shots as much.

It's a great model, kind of a step up from the Major. Real similar to the Major, we have a 2.9 pound hopper, again, the 63 mm burrs, stepless adjustment so just adjusts left or right to go finer or coarser.

Now this is the timer model, so it has a dosing chamber. You can grind not exactly by time, but more by filling the doser. Unlike the other models, this switch will be set to fill the dosing chamber if you turn it on - but it can still be turned off manually. The dosing chamber holds about 350 grams. Same thing, adjustable veins, you can use the sweeper lever to dose out your coffee into your porta filter. You can change that dose by adjusting the veins within the dosing chamber around 7 to 10, maybe 12 grams or so. Again, similar to the Major, this has about four grams of retention and four grams per second. You'll take a little bit under five seconds to grind out 20 grams.

If you're using it for a medium volume cafe, you'll want to make sure that you're purging in between doses if it's left to sit more than a few minutes. You might have a little bit of waste if you're not really serving all that much espresso, but this will be a great medium to higher volume primary espresso grinder for a cafe. I'd say it's about 25 inches tall, 44 pounds. It's not a delicate little machine, it's a great workhorse. That's the Mazzer Kony. Thanks.
