2022 Residential Products of the Year

Nov 25th 2022 Written by Ragan LaTour-Kelley

Can you believe 2022 is coming to a close?

It's been a year filled with normalcy compared to the previous two. Many of us returned to frequenting our local coffee shop with friends and chatting with our favorite barista about the weather, but that doesn't take away from the joy and enchantment that comes from brewing the perfect cup of coffee at home.

It was a remarkable year for residential coffee equipment, from impressive upgrades to much beloved equipment, to items that are entirely new to our catalog, we enjoyed every moment of getting to test and share these products with you. Enjoy browsing our top picks of 2022!

Lelit Bianca V3

We have loved the Lelit Bianca for its manual flow profiling, making experimentation and quality more accessible and affordable. With the release of the V3, Lelit set the bar even higher. Apart from a slightly darker stain on the knobs, the physical appearance of the Bianca remains the same, but internally there are exciting new things in the works. The V3 is now equipped with Electronic Low Flow Mode which brings ease and automation to the flow profiling. This allows the user to program the times in which the machine transitions to and from 4 bars of pressure up to 9 bars of pressure. Additionally, the Bianca V3 has a quicker startup with both boilers heating in 10-12 minutes, as well as features like its new standby mode, eco mode, sleep mode, and always-on mode.

Option-O Lagom Mini

Folks are still riding the wave of the highly sought-after Lagom P64, but here at Prima, we've also become quite fond of the P64’s smaller counterpart, the Lagom Mini. Boasting a conveniently small footprint of only 3.7”x 2.6” and a unique cylindrical geometry, the Lagom Mini is a modest but mighty option. It’s available in two colors and two 48 mm burr options to meet both your aesthetic and brewing needs. The Obsydian burrs, coated in Black TiCN, yield a higher body, medium-clarity cup that shines with espresso, whereas the Moonshine burrs are uncoated and yield higher clarity that brings out the juicer notes sought after in filter coffee. We have enjoyed the versatility and affordability of the Lagom Mini.

Baratza Sette 30

When it comes to testing new products, Baratza is the gold standard for electric home grinders, and that’s why we brought on the Sette 30 this year. A paired down version of the Sette 270, the 30 offers 31 grind settings that all shine in the finer grind rangers, making it a great option for espresso. Although it lacks the micro-stepped adjustments of the 270, and does not feature multiple programmable grind time presets, it does come with a more affordable price tag, making it a fantastic option for those looking for an electric grinder on a budget or those just getting started in home espresso.

Origami Dripper

The design of the Origami Dripper is comparable to a piece of art. Consisting of spectacular craftsmanship, unique color options, and versatile brewing options, the Origami has become a much-loved brewer at Prima. The Origami is crafted of minoware, a ceramic-making technique out of Japan with a rich history. Its 20-fold design encourages a faster brew time due to faster airflow, and makes it compatible with Origami conical filters, Hario V60 02 filters, and Kalita Wave 185 filters, adding a unique factor of versatility to this brewer. Although not new to specialty coffee, the Origami is a pleasant addition to our lineup of pour overs.

Mazzer Omega Hand Grinder

Mazzer has been an industry leader for decades, dominating the commercial market, but this year they introduced their flagship hand grinder, the Mazzer Omega. The Omega is the embodiment of all things high quality. From its superior craftsmanship, nearly 100% metal body, impressive 47mm conical fast burrs capable of a full grind range, and convenient external grind adjustment, it checks all of the boxes. Addiitonally, it has true-zero calibration that makes keeping track of your grind setting a breeze while its detachable arm and pommel make it a fantastic travel companion. The Omega has quickly become one of our favorite hand grinders at Prima.

Orphan Espresso LIDO Basic

The LIDO Basic maintains all there is to love about Orphan Espresso LIDO grinders, but it now includes exciting and convenient new features. LIDO grind adjustment rings have always been challenging at first, but the Basic eliminates the learning curve by incorporating an external knob that, when loosened, allows easy stepless adjustments. This simple addition makes changing the grind adjustment a breeze, allowing the user to make minor adjustments on the fly. It also improves upon the LIDO 3 by including a fixed handle, rather than the foldable one. This prevents the grinder from fitting in the neoprene traveling case but provides additional stability while grinding.

Fellow Stagg EKG Pro

The Fellow Stagg EKG kettle's eye-catching, modern design make it a beautiful piece of gear while its gooseneck spout provides the precision necessary for exceptional manual brewing, making it both gorgeous and functional. But this wasn't enough for Fellow, they've taken it one step further with the EKG Pro. It’s now equipped with a clock and scheduling mode, a guide mode for water temperature optimization, altitude adjustment, a pre-boil function, a chime feature with volume adjustment, a new, full-color display, and hold options for 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes, setting the bar to new heights. It also has a new lid with a gasket seal, ensuring that as much heat as possible is retained when the kettle is no longer on the stand. What more could you ask for?

Brewista X-series Glass Server

When building out a coffee setup, one may not put much thought into which server to choose. Apart from capacity, they're all relatively similar, that is, until the Brewista X-series. Designed by a group of Q grade coffee experts, these servers boast a unique, geometric design, two color options, and a lid with a silicone outer shell for increase heat retention. The X-series servers will make an eye-catching addition to a home setup!
