Details

The Chemex coffee brewer is part science, part work of art. Invented by Dr. Peter Schlumbohm in 1941, the Chemex is an iconic part of coffee brewing history and art history, being feature in the Museum of Modern Art's collection since 1944. The Chemex was designed to allow for a pure brewing experience, having the coffee only come in contact with non-porous, borosilicate glass and the specially designed filters. Overall a simple, beautiful, brewer that makes great coffee.

  • Brewing on the Chemex is simple: open the filters so that the three sided section of the filter is facing the spout, add ground coffee, and pour your desired volume of hot water over the coffee.
  • This hourglass shaped flask is made entirely of glass, a chemically inert material that does not absorb odors or chemical residues.
  • Capacity: 3 cup (1 pint/16ozs.)
  • Two models: Glass Handle or Wood Collar with leather tie. (select from options above)
  • Has no moving parts and will work forever, unless it is dropped or in some other way destroyed.
  • Also available in 10 cup, 8 cup, and 6 cup volumes.

Love my 3 cup Chemex!

I must admit, I purchased my 3 and 6 cup Chemex from another company before I knew of Prima. I sure would have given their amazing customer service, but future coffee needs will be. The 3cup Chemex is my preferred method over the V-60, 6 cup Chemex or any other method actually. I prefer the 3 cup because I usually am making one or two cups max and the size is perfect, especially for 1 cup. It‰Ûªs just a little more manageable and seems more efficient. The filters are fun to fold and I do that once a week, it‰Ûªs a calming ritual. The cones are quite different in that they are narrower and the folding is more involved. One other thing I think I‰Ûªm noticing, but it could be some other variable, is that the 3 cup might produce a ever so slightly bolder flavor over the 6 cup when doing a single serve. All things equal: coffee grind, weight, water temps, amounts and times. It‰Ûªs subtle but I need to experiment more. One thing for sure is the Chemex constantly has a slightly lighter, crisper and wonderfully balanced brew over the V-60 and the French press is about to be given away. My final thoughts, it‰Ûªs beautiful, personally more appropriate in size for 1 or two cups, takes up less space in a small kitchen, and the filters are kinda fun to fold. It does seem the filters are not nearly as easy to find as the other Chemex filters. I use the 3 cup 5 days a week and the six cup once or twice per week preferring the 3 cup slightly. All the Chemex products are top notch, you can‰Ûªt go wrong with Chemex or ordering through Prima.

So long and thanks for all the coffee

Disclaimer: I used to work at Prima Coffee. When I worked at Prima I got a damaged 3 cup Chemex for free or for pennies. So, of course when I am now unable to get super cheap slightly busted coffee equipment, my daughter decides to go all 'Kylo Ren' on our 3 cup Chemex with her bubble wand. Never mind that I should have been paying better attention to my child's actions in relation to where I left a big, all glass container. Never mind that she was really just trying to put her bubble wand away and wasn't upset in the slightest. So, I just bought another one, mainly because before I left Prima I purchased probably 1,000 3 cup filters which do not fit in our 10 cup Chemex. I really like using this 3 cup during the week; it makes not too little or too much coffee. It did ship here fast and it wasn't broken, so that's great. I recently ordered a shoe rack that goes in the dryer and they sent two broken shoe racks before shipping one that didn't break. It was packaged the same way each time. Crazy! Oh, and on the shipment box, Prima's graphic designer wrote an explanatory illustration in order to instruct my 1 year old to not get her bubble wand anywhere near our Chemex again. It was really funny and we kept the box. I'd post a picture of it but it's dark out right now.

Chemex 3-cup Coffee Maker

I have used other methods to make pour-over coffee and the Chemex by far is my favorite. It makes a nice clean cup of coffee.

Perfect

I had been using one for years until I broke it. When it was time to replace the broken Chemex, I considered other options but after a little testing stuck with an exact replacement. I like the wood grip for this size but would probably get the handle for a bigger Chemex.

chemex three cup

Great carafe. With its special filters it makes a wonderful cup of coffee. I love the chemex, its size, its neck that is not too large, its simplicity, and the great cups of coffee.

Best Coffee Ever

The carafe is a bit small for making coffee for two people but it works splendidly and the coffee is FAR superior to our trusty old french press.

Best cup of coffee ever. I agree with James Bond.

I thought this would be too much trouble to get a cup of coffee BUT it is easy. It does take a little more time to make but well worth the experience for a cup of wonderful tasting coffee.

Great coffee with Chemex!

Chemex makes the very best coffee. My husband & I start our day with it. Since we often get up at different times, we can have super fresh coffee after getting to the kitchen! It is amazing how great the taste is. We love Chemex with our favorite brand of coffee.

Simple Elegance

Wonderful, simple design. Sturdier than the Japanese equivalent that broke a little too easily. Well made and easy to use.

Live up to its promise!

My coffeemaker and filters arrived yesterday and I had my first cup this morning, following the instructions for brewing which accompanied it. Both products performed as promised and my coffee tasted wonderful. No bitterness! I'm glad I bought Chemex.

Perfect size

I needed a small drip coffee pot and remembered that my Mom had a Chemex in the '50's. After finding it online I ordered one and am very happy with the product. I am still getting adjusted to the amount of coffee to use for my taste. The size is perfect for one person.

Chemex 3 cup

Came in time for my wedding as this was a gift for my beautiful bride. Works great but I had to buy the filters from another site. I would definitely shop at prima again!

Useful size

I hesitated over buying this size, thinking it was versatile enough. However, I do not have much reason to serve more than myself, or occasionally me and my husband. Using the appropriate size, this size, saves time and money. I also think it looks cute. Next time, I think I will buy prefolded filters, though. I keep getting coffee grounds when I use my half-moon fold-'em filters.

Good, but too small...

I got my 3-cup Chemex this week and quickly discovered I drink more coffee than the 3-cup can deliver in one pour. Not a huge deal, but in hindsight I think the 6-cup would offer more versatility. Since I have a Zojirushi electric water boiler I don't need to heat water in a kettle on the stove and I've just been using a glass measuring cup to pour over. As the opening of the 3-cup isn't very large, it is a lot more difficult to control the pour. After a few tries, I think I've mastered it without having to invest in a thin spout kettle. The 3-cup produces 3 "5 oz " cups, so in essence only one large cup of coffee (with a little extra) or 1.5 "average" cups of coffee. Aside from it being too small, I did live the flavor of the coffee and the clean up is so much easier than my Aeropress or a French Press. I was also really surprised at how large the filters were (being used to the traditional drip filters). åÊIf you really just want to fill up a travel mug each morning than this is the perfect size. If you like to have several cups throughout the day, you may want to consider the 6-cup classic or the 5-cup handblown.

Wooden collar too small

The wooden collar is too small and my hand makes contact with the hot glass. Wish I had replaced my small chemex with the handle
